    :)

Why is it that everything we ( as a group of rodders ) find something we want ... it is always 400, 600 or more miles away ? Everytime I find a vehicle I would consider buying ... it is 2 to 3 days travel away.

I went to Lake Erie from the middle of South Carolina ... almost 30 years ago to get my 32 Roadster ... my 56 F-100 big window came from St. Louis ... the engine for my 3W ... I went to the other side of Dallas. I went to Arizona to get 32 parts before ...

SO ... how far have you went to get a project ??

I went all the way across town to get that T-plane from UncleScooby.

'course I did go 500miles to Lynchburg to get my Austin and 640 miles to get a '47 parts truck.

And the '55 has followed me from Amarillo to Lousiana to Houston to Indy. Does that count? :D

When growing up in Wasilla, Alaska, the family would drive to Arizona and back to get cars from my grandpa in Wenden, Az. Over 600 miles of DIRT roads then just along the Al-Can Hiway. And we'd DRIVE the car back, never had a trailer. Over 3600 miles EACH way. Did it 4-5 times...

    One of the rigs was a 40's Ford cabover truck.....all stock, flathead, two-speed rear.........that was a looooooooong trip......@ 45mph

My car was delivered. It went from Gainesville FL to Fort Worth TX. 1050 miles.

I went with a buddy to Kansas a couple of weekends ago to get an old Mustang. 550 miles there and then traded the car we drove, to drive his (untested) car back to TX. Made it back no problem.

  22. 750 miles round trip (VA to CT) to bring home my A tudor.

I figure anything within a weekend trip is fair game, but draw the line at taking vacation time.

BTW, the attendant transportation costs (gas, lodging, food) to retrieve a car need to be figured into the purchase price. For an otherwise inexpensive "project car" ;) they can be a decisive factor.

  23. I never said it was coming straight home. ;)

I only had to go about 60 miles for the 51. However, a buddy drove to Cali from Detroit and back, non-stop only catnaps for a Fairlane, actually he has done it twice.....
Another buddy left last night again from Detroit to N. Carolina for a 60 chevy wagon parts car...but he's a younging....

Bought my wagon in La Mesa, CA when I was living / working in San Diego in 2004.

Of course, now I'm back home in Kentucky and the wagon had to make the trip as well.

Went from Kentucky to New Jersey and back over a weekend to pick up a project.

Learned the hard way that there are, apparently, no left turns in New Jersey.

You Jersey folks need to warn the rest of us about "jug handles" :D

  30. Traveled from England to New Orleans to buy my TR4. Drove, or rather, coaxed it straight to the docks. I am leaving Mississippi this weekend for South Florida to pick up a Cushman.
