I worked at a store gathering up the shopping carts out in the parking lot in high school. every week a lady would come in with her 4-speed 409 powered 1962 Impala SS. gold with a tan or maybe kind of yellow interior. just another 15 year old used car. wonder what ever happened to it?
My neighborhood barber had a '64 Impala 409 Super Sport with a 4-speed when I was in college. He kept it immaculate. I was a diehard MoPar fan but so respected that Chevy. It was a jewel.
Got 348s and will have a 409 soon, going in 3 weeks to pickup a 340hp motor, but have now stock piled all the good stuff for a 425hp motor to build out of it. Gonna be shoving that in out 61 Impala.
If anyone is interested, I have an NOS Crane solid flat tappet cam I would sell or trade for a SBC cam or? It pretty large. I do have the specs at home. Gene.
Kinda got a soft spot for those “W” engines . There was never a 409 around our neighborhood, but there were several 348s and one 348 that claimed to be a 409! And, James, this is kinda hard for me to say…..being a Ford guy and all! Bones
One day I'll have a 348 or 409 in a rod. Likely a 348 but I'd be tickled either way. Growing up there was a one owner black on black 409/4 speed 64 Impala a block from my house. And it was intact at least until 2001. Husband of the widow that owned it worked for gm for like 40-50 years and got it on a deep employee discount. As she was an elderly black woman in the 90s she was afraid of white people so I didn't get much information out of her or get to look at it close much but was still a cool car. I believe it's actually still there though I think it was bulldozed with her shack during the beginning of the real estate boom here a few years ago. I've seen traces of mangled chrome and black painted steel poking out of the brush pile where it was parked approximately 25-30 years
Then the current 348 in our 61, soon to be a 409... Then the car that started the obsession with W's, the 61 Impala my grandfather ordered brand new in 61. 348/350hp 4 speed car.
Be awhile before I could afford it. Even at a friend's/family/forum discount lol. Got a lot of irons in the fire ATM and not many tongs to grab them with lol
Well, I had mixed emotions about that, me being a Ford man but you being my friend….it was all good! Let the best man ( car) win! That was a great outing, was it not? Sorry, I only got staging pictures! At the green light, I watched the race! Hope to see you again , soon! Bones
