That is so awesome, what a reliable power plant you’ve got there! Can I ask the specs? I used a 90 adapter from my Dad that he had used on one of his hemi’s so there’s sentimental value on top of looking cool (and has a much larger filter on now, I just had that one on hand for initial start up)

And how did people seriously think you have NOT changed the oil/filter?! Ha, I guess I’m ignorant in believing that everyone who has built a hotrod and frequently posts on the HAMB understands the necessity and frequency of oil changes in a regularly driven vehicle regardless of exact verbiage used.
But it does bring one of my favorite quotes to mind,
‘Don’t argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.’

I want to do the opposite.
My 440 has the oil filter mounted sideways and sticking out forward of the engine. Tends to conflict with front cross members. I want to turn it 90° so it's pointing down. More clearance and no more oil spillage when changing the filter.

If I understand correctly, a Ford 90° filter adapter fits my engine and will do that for me.

I have sadly learned not to disturb the sacred cows. They will trample you. There are a lot of things I think make no sense that I would like to comment on. I dare not.

    Tat2Neil,
The engine is a 53 241 Red Ram. It is mostly stock. It has an Isky 280 cam. The intake is an Edmonds single four with a 54 Buick wcfb. The carb is not re-jetted. It runs great and gets great mileage. It also pulls hard. It needs more compression and the intake passages ported. I built it in 84. It originally had two 97’s but I found the Edmonds and switched out. All the rest is as built.
The trans is a 57 Chevy with adapters to the Hemi. 40 Ford column shift. Stock K member. Maverick rear.

Very nice setup! Mine is also a ‘53 241, stock valves,10.5:1 pistons, offy 3x2, hydraulic roller cam from Donnie Johansen with .486 lift and 108 degree lobe separation, Chevy T5 trans. I love it! Just finished building it last year and have almost 600 trouble free miles so far. I’d be very pleased if I can get 40years of service out of her

Yessir, I used a Pertronix unit to replace the original points. Put on a new cap and it works like a charm and I love the original look. Still the original rotor, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Every time I see RTV on a filter adapter I cringe when you tighten it some squeezes out on the inside as well as out. At that point if it brakes away there is no oil pickup screen or filter to catch it goes straight to plugging a bearing passage.

They sem to interchange, used to be lots of vans/trucks in the junkyards. New the Ford one was a lot cheaper than the Mopar Performance one.

On my 1st 331 Hemi I used an adaptor supposedly was FE that mounted the filter vertical so no oil loss doing a filter change. On my current 331 I used the HH OEM angle adaptor & can use the long Ford filter on it.

Perhaps the reason all those "stupid people", etc. decided that he never changed the oil filter was because of this, in post #7:

I was trying to spread some info that I thought may help someone.
The question that I have is after all the talk, is anyone going to use the idea?
I would love to find out someone is interested in trying it.

Personally I can't imagine doing this to bolts. [IMG]

While this may be OK in your eyes, I don't think that you should be trying to get other people to do it. Quite frankly, I'm surprised that there is anyone who thinks it's the proper way to solve this problem.

Opinions can vary. I don’t agree with yours.
I would like to know what bothers you.
You have posted many times but nothing other than you don’t like it.
The bolts are only out of line 50%. They were not bent cold. They were heated and bent when red hot. You are welcome to run the numbers.
I have never had a leak or any problem with it in 35 years. It has already gone at least 200K.

In my opinion it is shoddy work that I would not tolerate on one of my vehicles.

The numbers you are quoting (miles and years) cause me trepidation.

    Let's agree to disagree.

You maybe can find a thread a guy posted on my car.
Try to find Andy Rafferty Roadster.
This was posted without my knowledge.
The filter mod was done in 85.
It was done with the tools I had. Sorry if you fine problems with the quality.
Let’s see what you did 40 years ago.
The car was built in the late 80’s and running in 90. It has pics people took of it at various events.
You might find some info on the composite front springs I made. One is still under the roadster.
I did a thread on spring calibrating. I used to do it for anybody. Another thread was on a home made load cell. I like to help people
