My kids love when I pick them up from school in my oldies. My daughter loves the convertible and my son loves the 49. Sometimes I don’t feel like going through the trouble of getting them out but seeing their huge smiles when they walk out them school doors always makes it worth it 100%. If you have kids or grandkids in school near you pickup them up in a classic one day and they’ll never forget it. Feel free to post your pics here. Here’s a few. My son started a tradition of picking up my grandkids in my '46 Woodie on their graduation day. He literally gets swarmed by teachers and kids.

I had the opposite problem. When my daughter was in junior high, I picked her up one day in what (I thought) was a pretty snazzy '79 Ranchero Squire, complete with a set of Tru-Spokes. She was strangely silent on the ride home. When we got there, she turned to me and said : "Next time, please don't pick me up in the Station Wagon truck." I have no idea where that came from.

  7. Love the coupe!! I'd like to see more pictures of it...

  8. lasting memories there for sure. I fondly remember when my grandpa would surprise me with picking me up in the 33 pickup I have now. Was the best day as getting to go home in it also meant getting a ice cream cone along the way.

  9. I have often picked up my kids at school with an old car, my 7 year old loves my Chrysler convertible, Hell I moved both my older daughters to college in my '65 Barracuda.

  10. I picked my stepson up from school in a Hearse. He didn't think it was as cool as I did. I loved that Hearse. The old ladies house I parked it in front of didn't love it either.

When my son was a senior in high school, he drove a Ford Escort I had to school. The last week of school leading up to graduation, I gave him the keys to the 72 Barracuda to drive. It was a huge hit. I would have let him take the 57 but he couldn't drive a 4-speed yet.

  13. Keep it up as long as you can, because there will be a stage where they may say "Don't park so close to the school, everybody will look at me!!". I just told them that it was a long hot walk home. It just felt kinda nice having a 60 year old car amongst all the ugly 4WD's and late model trash.
When they got older, all their friends wanted me to take them to their high school formal in one of my bombs.

I took my niece and her date to the prom in my '49 Studebaker Champion sedan decades ago. The theme was the early 1960's, so I tried to dress the part - leather vest, white T-shirt, hair slicked back, and mirrored shades. My brother said I looked like a Mexican biker (?). Despite the rusty spots, the Studebaker drew quite a crowd of teachers and students.

  15. I used to pick my son up from school every Friday, from 1st grade all the way through to the 12th, in either the t-bucket, 41 chevy or the Henry J.
One day he requested to be taken to school in the Henry J and picked up in the t-bucket, I took the day off from work to make that happen for him.

His buddies used to love when I'd pick him up in one of the old cars, the teachers liked it too. Well there was that one that said my cars were to loud and I was disrupting class, so the next Friday I rolled in with open headers lol

My Dad was a Pontiac man. We had a ‘60, a ‘64, and in 1965 we had a Catalina 2+2. It was in for service so the Salesman lent my dad his demo. Dad picked me up from school in a ‘65 GTO convertible, triple black, with the top down. And he squawked the tires pulling away. I was in Heaven!

Yep, I remember getting picked up from school in my folks neat cars even though they were never old. Then, I picked up my kids in old cars every chance I got. I even helped tutor at a school that two of my kids went to and we drove either my 60 Thunderbird or 56 Fairlane every day. That Thunderbird ended up being the car that my youngest son did all his drive time in when he had a driver's permit. Most of that was back and forth to school. This was my youngest son driving me and my other two kids to his 16th birthday dinner in the Thunderbird. You can tell my older son was not happy to be in the back seat...lol

When my son was in elementary school I was driving a different car every few months, picking up little British cars and flipping them. (Italian ones, too) I picked him up in Spitfires, Spiders, MGB's, Cortinas, BMW 2002's... and a big old noisy Dodge A100 van with a 318 and a Country Squire with a 429

  24. Picked grand daughter up in my coupe. Had the plugs open. She acted embarrassed! But remembers it well. The principal tried to talk to me but the car was too loud.

  25. My oldest drove my Fargo to grad and my middle daughter drove the barracuda both time dad rode shotgun! They both picked grad dresses to coordinate with the colors

my daughter sat on the fender of my 1946 Harley chopper going to school every day for 3 years. Much later she told me she was embarrassed and it was years later before she figured out how cool that was.
