I picked up a rebuilt transmission locally for my 1936 Ford truck before I knew which way I wanted to go with this project. It is open drive but I would really like to keep the torque tube.

What would it take to convert this transmission to closed drive (main shaft, rear mount/retainer)? Or would I be better off looking for someone that wants an open drive and swap with them?

Easiest would be to swap the transmission, but you’d want to make sure the one you’re getting is as least as good as yours.
If you were closer, I’d give you a transmission from a ‘36 PU.
Maybe you know someone in my area that can pick it up and get it to you?

PS I’ve no clue on its condition

The rear output shaft and rear bearing retainer. Easy to do if you get the book from Mac VanPelt.

This. Not a big deal and all and you can sell all those open drive parts for around $175-$200 since you have the yoke.

I just picked up the Van Pelt book so I'll read through and start looking to pick up the shaft and retainer. Thanks!
