Hey guys. I'm at the end of the road on my homemade coe gmc,I mean it runs, drives etc and it needs a lot of work but I need to start on other projects otherwise those projects sit.. I need to get the parts off the shelves and I need to see what's usable and what to throw away... so I was thinking of starting My 37 gmc fenderless rod going...that made me move some things around the house put some shit for sale, throw away a bunch of parts and started to clean an area in the garage to work on it. Then bad luck came my way and destroyed my desert express, dam another thing to fix.. I was thinking that I also need a car hauler so I started looking for haulers on FB mkplace... Wouldn't you know that I found a grille.for my 37 gmc,a fender for my coe and I found this weird Montepellier van face on the market place... I made a deal with all three people and I drove on Friday night to Visalia California to pick the fender and grile and then to Santa Clarita CA for the van face... Of course I didn't take my trailer so I looked like a tweaker all over CA with my crap.... Then yesterday I found an 89 3500 with a 7.3 and I'm going to try to make something that resembles a flatbed/dove tail car hauler out of the two.. Please bear with me because I'll have a lot of questions... Hopefully the mods keep this thing open to help a lost cause out here in the desert.
Good to hear that You’re out and about after the crash. I’m looking forward to see what You fab up out of the new pile of parts . I’m really liking the the Montapler lol
thanks.. I'm also glad I'm on my feet... Have back pain but ok for the most part.. Me too! I Knew it was odd when I saw it on MP
I really enjoy your Desert Express build and look forward to this one. Seeing that bread truck gets to me. My favorite grandfather was born in 1920 and worked for a dairy from the mid-1950s until 1970. He was one of the LAST home delivery milkmen in the Chicago suburbs. I was 10 years old but never got to see what kind of trucks he drove. The mind boggles now wondering what they might have been, but it has to be something like this or a DIVCO, etc.
I really don't need another project but I had to have this when I saw it. Idk how long it will take haha That's cool about your gramps...thanks I think a chop is going to help a lot.
This thing has a wood frame....I had to take the floor and doghouse frame off and it started to fold into a taco...it's mocked where I can see what I need to trim and then it's going inside the garage to start replacing the wood with steel tubing and some rust repair.... I'm way over my head on this one. There one in Texas but it's a truck.. I joined another group and the guy sent me some pics.
Thanks guys...had a bit of time the past two weeks and I started to get inspired so I begun to work on thins thing in the heat...lots of cold brew, short wearing/no shirt days and some shade...I managed to move the batteries and rewire it,remove the XMas lights bed (that's what the truck was being used for) And today I tried to started it but it didn't... Hit the fuel tank and it sounded empty.. Went to gas station, got 4gal of diesel and it started right up... Next to do is some wood support removal on the cab and replace with metal, rust repair and start building the back of the cab.
It was really hot today but I played with this thing a bit. The inner frame is oak but it crumbled as I lifted it back and forth...it was time to take it all off. I'll have the inside sandblasted and onto rust repair.
Looks like a spin on filter with a removable sensor cap . But I could be wrong. The picture isn’t to clear on my phone . The fuel filters on my combine and one JD tractor are like that . There’s probably a o-ring that is bad
Anyone got experience with IDI 7.3? Mine is leaking from the bottom of the water separator? that should have a petcock type valve in the bottom to drain water. looks like that may have had a hose on it. wire is probably for a heater with a thermostat to keep water in the bottom from freezing
I like it so far. The bumper and headlights look good. Any plans to continue the trim from the front onto the doors and back of cab?
So, I super love this thing, and I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to see what it would look like with the front trim extended through the doors, and with the roof wings repositioned to the corners of the bed. Did a quick and dirty Photoshop job on it. No matter what way you go with it, I'm looking forward to seeing more of this one. But here's a little food for thought.
I did have plans to do something like that with the trim, and even had some aluminum trim already líned out.
