i'm doing a draw through turbo on a 302 gmc six, the configuration more less makes me mount the 600 Edelbrock carb back wards. has anyone done this?? i had a guy tell me that the secondary's will open erratically because of the counter weight on them is working backwards. give me your ideas... thanks Jay D.
dunno about backwards, but I have one mounted sideways on a 300 six. Seems to work fine. even on corners...
I like small base Rochester 2G carburetors on street driven flatheads, and have done several. They are much easier to to hook up when mounted backwards. Doing so has never caused any problems.
I saw one on a flathead with a 144 blower in a '40 that was mounted backwards... because he said it was easier to hook up the throttle. He said it worked great!
What he said !! The only possible problem is uncovering the jets on hard acceleration. You CAN do like the Holley jet "extenders", form a bent tube to face the deeper area of gas, so the jets stay covered in gas under acceleration. Don't ask others that are only...guessing ! Give it a try. Mike
I don't know about these carbs, but if it were a genuine Carter, I would suggest an A/F gauge to see what the A/F was doing under hard, extended acceleration. There might be an issue with the floats dropping as they should, allowing the fuel bowl levels to drop to an unacceptable level. Testing is going to be the answer. Jon
Edelbrocks mounted forwards are known to slosh fuel on hard left turns and choke out the motor, especially if the floats are a little high. (don't ask me how I know) Depending on which way they're mounted, I wonder how that works on a sideways mounted carb?
