IMG_3565.jpeg Prepping parts for primer, I used foam rubber ear plugs to protect the threaded holes. It worked great and the primer didn’t eat the foam. IMG_3566.jpeg IMG_3569.jpeg

That is what makes “ hotrodding, hotrodding” ! The little details! Back in my prime, I liked the attention to detail, it makes a difference. It also lets you play with your lathe, if you have one! Those that have one, know what I’m talking about! Wink wink!

Heck yeah Bones! I’m always looking for an excuse to whittle something up on one of my machines. Something about giving my ride the personal touch.

In his first post he said the reason was to prevent chafing and then he said he wanted to use existing holes instead of drilling new ones. Not as attention to detail

The permanent ****ed little finger due to a high school football injury, during a rough tackle and getting jammed into the helmet surface. It was twice the size of the photo and over the years, always remained in that position. Despite me straightening it out, it falls back to this “****ed” position.

The orthopedic surgeon noticed it one day I went in for a knee checkup and said he could surgically straighten it out. Since it does nothing except being bent, I politely declined the surgery. Although, it does give a good base for the pinstriping brush hand position to try to get those lines curvy…

    Hello,

A week ago, I was out in the garage wiping off the windshield prior to one of our errand days. As I was using my right hand with a towel to wipe off the wiper blades, my little fingernail got caught in the loose cotton towel thread. As I yanked to pull my finger away, the thread cut into my nail and along with the metal “v” section, ripped the nail ½ off. Ok, so it was painful as it went to the skin underneath and bled on the cotton wiping rag.

So, my next step was to cut off the nail, but noticed that it was showing some skin and any way to cut or clip the nail was going to tear at the underneath skin. (and hurt…) I wiped off as much as I could and put on a large Bandaid to keep it together for now.

Then the next day when the throbbing was much less and the bleeding stopped, I took off the Bandaid and it looked awful. I moved the broken nail and it was instantly painful. So, now what? Can’t cut it off and if I put in some medicine and cover it up with another Bandaid, it would not be straight in the healing process.

So, while in the garage, I found some super glue from Loc***e. It was one of the easiest to open and apply with the nice grip handle. I have tried plenty of different brands and this one is an easy on and close the bottle after finishing product. The brush was a smooth application tip and flowed smoothly.

So, I pushed the broken nail back into position, without cutting it and as it fit like it should, I applied the first coat of Loc***e Super Glue. Waiting for it to dry in a few seconds, I applied another coat to the surface. Now, I had one shiny nail as if a nail salon did my nails and put on a gloss coat. No one noticed it, except for my wife. She asked why I had one shiny nail. Ha!

Now, here it is 1.5 weeks later and it looks to be healed like a new nail surface. It is still shiny after many hand washings and cleaners. I do not want to cut is just yet and will do so next week. I can file the ends down as the nail grows and by then, the skin underneath would have healed correctly. YRMV

Emergency supplies found in your garage drawer… The brush end has more quality uses than just a drop or two. If put back in the tube, the brush stays soft for the next application.

You may have missed the second part, after the photos, where I did mention utilizing the existing holes in the frame.

Besides, this whole thread is about exchanging and discussing ideas. I don’t see why anyone would come here to split hairs and be dismissive.

ERs use a medical grade super glue for a variety of injuries. I've used regular grade for small cuts and such!

And keep a roll of duct tape and electrical tape handy. I’ve used both to stop the occasional cut or gash when I’ve hurt myself in the garage. And I usually p*** out at the sight of my own blood…

My favorite trick is using valve lapping compound to ***ist with removing stripped out screws.

I always keep a tube of it around because its super handy. Old timer showed me that the first time I was in Afghanistan to help with a Phillips screw that had been absolutly anihilated on an aircraft. Put a little of that liquid sandpaper lapping compound on the end of your screwdriver and you would be surprised at how much it helps. Ive even dipped the box end of a wrench in it to help with a stripped out hex bolt.

Later on, when I worked on repairing naval equipment that had seen the bad side of sal****er, that little trick Im sure saved me a hundred hours of labor and a bunch of drill bits/ EZ outs.

I made a little video about it on my hobby youtube channel. I should make it again now that Im better at lighting and camera work etc. (Please nobody feel obligated to watch this, but it does show that it works)

I hear ya on the Phillips head screws that hold the panels on aircraft. I wasn’t a crew chief, I was metals tech, so I only dealt with them when they got stripped. We had a product called Screw Grab in a little green tube. I guess it was just fancy lapping compound.

Look at your 2416 post I hit like on it. You did a good job . But as I said I thought it was a lot of extra work for no real gain as adel clamps will hold lines off the frame just fine. If you think my comment was too harsh I'm sorry, but it was rather mild for what could've been posted here 20-25 years ago. Back then feelings were pretty much ignored

I remember those days (2008+) and I stepped in it a few times myself. Happy hotrodding.

The door hinges on my shop door screech loudly and will never get oiled. My warning system.

Thankfully we don’t have much of that. However we do have cameras and also I rely on our two Model 1 Mark 5 guard Labradors. They’re likely to lick an intruder to death but they do bark at strangers.

Eons ago, I installed a small bell to get rung when the garage door opened, since I was under the Deuce 5w a lot. Turns out the idiot neighbors' idiot St.Bernard would bark it's foole head off each time the bell rang. By the middle of winter, the barking mysteriously became absent. So I did a door-open-close a few times to see, & all I saw was puffs of steam emanating out of its' mouth. Funny as hell - so I made sure to activate the bell numerous times. Never failed to be amusing - to me... :D .

Shock color? I have a rescue dog I got when she was 5. She's pretty smart and has learned a lot but have had a hard time teaching her to "speak". Now I wonder if she was "taught" not to?

    Sure this has been posted..
Just putting an OT together an was reading the lack of sealing..
This applies to basically anything with mounting, Mostly two holes, But once You know, You'll figure out how/where to use..
Some people never think of it.
    Just think thermostat housing leaks..
I already knew this as cast piece was Wack, I sharpied it for demo..
First shot was almost a dozen p***es with a good sized file, kept going till close enough for the girl's I hang out with..
Took a piece of 150 board paper an dressed the file marks out, 100% Sealing surface.
