I don't know how it's done anymore but at one time I know it went like this...

    Gloss paint - 100% gloss
    Semi Gloss - 60% Gloss
    Semi Flat - 20% Gloss (?)
    Flat - 0% Gloss

So I'm sure that satin and Matt probably fit in there somewhere.....

The call for Krylon garnered much praise.

    Hello,

It was also a part of early hot rods to have something other than black painted rims. Although the black certainly helps the hubcap folks and from the small center caps to the addition of beauty trim rings, it did make a difference to stand out.

Instead of painting the rims red to match the original paint, we used red wrapping paper taped on to the rims. Then added our small center hubcaps. As different as it was, color matching as close as possible, it just did not have “the look.”

Now, the high school flathead powered sedan delivery looked like a hot rod, a slow one at that, but the trim rings and small center hubcaps gave it a custom look. Not just a blah, all black rims look, or a matching red style.

So, the original black rims and small center hubcaps had an addition of “beauty trim rings” and that made the whole project look much better than stock, than red, and just black on black with no caps. Black on black looked like it belonged at the dragstrip.

We tried all sorts of colors including black on black for our Impala for the street and drag racing. The color red made the rims on the black sedan look a little “clownish.” They immediately got painted over with black for the next few months.

Eventually, the black rims ended up silver to make the new small Impala hubcaps and GM beauty trim rings look like chromed reversed rims.

Out of a class of 800 teens, one set of rims was painted a red color, as it came from the factory.

    Note:

A "legal" street roadster would have been fun to drive on the street in our neighborhood! The sound and power was a fabulous combination. The handling? That would be another story. If I owned a street roadster like this one and I could park it in the auto shop parking spaces, then it would be fine. But, the surrounding neighborhood of the Long Beach High School was not one of those places where an open motor/cockpit area being exposed is a good or smart thing. The roadster may not start after school… ha!

Nice red wheels...whitewalls included... pure late 50's street roadster. The Cassady/Thompson A/SR

It, too, was very fast class winner almost every weekend...
