So it has been a very long time since I have posted, commented or other wise interacted on here but I gotta share.

So I hang out with alot Older fellas and 'am constantly learning and enjoying the lessons and stories they share. I'm also lucky to beable to experiance thier collections of "Stuff".
Thats leads into what I want to share...
My Uncle Ted and I were talking about what transmissions will bolt up to which Chevy 6 cylinders and we got stumped. He says you should go talk to a buddy of mine and he'll for sure know.
Well I did, and fast forward about a year later and after many conversations my Uncle Ted and I are delivering a '37 Caddilac transmission to his buddy.
Anyway, his buddy which I now call Uncle Bob is happy with the delivery and grabs a wheel barrow because these things are heavy. Uncle Ted, Uncle Bob and I head into the back yard to put it away.
    Well ol Uncle Bob
unlocks and opens the door on one of many sheds on the property and says just put in there. I'm not paying attention to much so I grab the transmission and step inside the shed. After my eyes adjust I realize this is more than Uncle Bobs storage shed.
    I'm standing next to a 1950 Mercury!
I slightly freak out, walk outside, look Uncle Bob in the eyes and ask - Is that what I think it is?
He just smirks and says yep, been in there since 1980.
So as you can imagine I'm alsortsa excited and I start jabbering away. Uncle Bob and Uncle Ted are just listening to me chatter away like an excited squirrel and the next thing I know, Uncle Bob and I are makeing a deal for the car.

So to wrap this up- I'am now the proud owner of a no shit, I aint kidding, true blue, never thought I'd own one, barn find Merc.

Its missing a few small bits and yeah it ain't a convertable or a 2 door, but who cares....Its Mine!

Gonna be needing a few parts so if you got some stashed let me know.

    Joe

  4. Well burn me with a torch and call me Bill Hines. You done hit the lottery son ( won the jackpot that is, struck gold) . What are your plans for this vehicle? Engine, transmission, etc…. As for paint, it’ll buff out ( hehe) . Good luck.

congrats, I enlarged the pics. always select "full image" when posting pics

  11. Damn that thing is cool!

The shot from the rear corner is the "money shot" . Great body style & it matters not that it is a "more door".

The painter in me says...I would have it in bare metal two days from now, but it would be awesome to get it running & drive it just like that (with a new glass of course) for a while.

    God Bless

Very cool. I drove a ‘49 Merc 4-door my senior year in high school.

So since a few have asked about my plans for the Mercury:
Well, I'm a firm beliver in that if the car is a clean and beautiful stocker then leave it alone.
There are enough Chopped, Channeled or other wise butchered '49-'51 Mercurys in this world.

So thats my plan. Leave it alone and enjoy it.

I’d get me a gallon of black lacquer and finish up those primer spots and paint it all black again (not black primer, they never would have settled for that back in the day) a little static lowering and some new wide whites with a good selection of hubcaps. Run a stock flathead engine, modern stick shift transmission and some glass pack mufflers. Upgrade the brakes, cooling and enjoy.

That is a four door that I would own and drive!! They, at least to me, are cool.
