Thanks for sharing. Not my style, but interesting. The engine shot shows why they are tougher to swap (wide). When you talk to him again, ask what the weak parts are. I know that the aftermarket has 'fixes' for lots of stuff on those and they seem to be a ton of variations engine to engine. .

Looks like a 32 valve motor...

  5. 4 valve it is. With a cage, he must be serious about his intentions. :)

  6. No way in hell I’d let my newly licensed 17 year old drive something with that kind of power. At least it has a roll cage…

  7. 85-86 car with 87-93 1/4 windows and a clean 4.6L swap. 96-03 dash, New Edge Mach 1 seats. Far amount of work in that car and it looks well done.
Lot of car for a young guy! Likely 500rwhp easily.

I had a fast car when I was in high school and so did a lot of my buddies. We built them, blew up motors, transmissions, even a transbrake amongst other stuff, but we had a little bit of sense about ourselves. We knew if we got caught doing stupid shot then we would be walking to school, work and begging for rides from our folks.

Growing up in the mid-60's ...Beer drinking age was 18 (in SC) soooo....we bought it at 16 !
One buddy got to drive his bootlegger Daddys 63 427 Galaxy 4-speed on 'some' weekends.
Another pal had a sweeet 55 Shivelay with a complete 396 drive line from a wrecked Chevelle (even the interior!)
    Even Grandma's ever-day car was a 300HP 327 Belair...
Gas was cheap (100 octane) ...Speed limit was 55MPH...Cops were TERRIBLE !...
EVERYBODYS parents knew each other (or so it seemed)
We managed to stay alive ...so we could go to Vietnam !

My parents wouldn't spend that much.
Not jealous , just know way without parents money he bought or built that.
Yes there is no way a young driver should have that on the street.
The family races I'm geussing , so he should drive it at track.
I wasn't raised with stuff handed to me. I earned and bought my stuff. He may be a good kid but most aren't.
Sorry for rant but to many bad desicions by parents today. They want there kids to have more than they had.
We learned to respect what we had.

In HS , I drove 67 Fairlane , 428 SCJ , 4 speed , 4.57 ratio rear . I have no idea how parents slept until I was home . Then the 2 wheels came into the game and it was time for me to move out of the house . Lots of bad friends hangin around .

  22. I only know the young man at school.
zero discipline issues ever. Super polite, great attitude.
He and his dad are into drag racing.
Dad manages a local shop. He grew up messing with cars. How much did the kid do in this one? Not sure.
He drives a Camry beater most of the time. Typical teen ride with tinted windows and tuner style wheels. He recently painted his roof to resemble a newer TRD Camry.
He’s been staying extra time at school to help with a project we are building.
Kids parents are better off than mine were. So what. Could care less.
    I’m glad he’s enjoying it.

I graduated from high school in 1974. One of my buddies bought himself a brand new 73 340 Challenger for his 18th birthday present to himself. He paid cash for it with money he had earned himself.
I bought my first house when I was 19. Its a pretty big assumption that the kid's parents are the people paying for that car.
When my son was in high school, he drove a pretty quick Dodge panel van that he bought, and we built. He grew up with a dad that was into racing (both on the street and on the track), and I knew he had the understanding of how to handle the power. We both knew that most of his classmates would have killed themselves in that van because they were not ready for that kind of power. My daughter was lucky to handle the power of a 4 cylinder Dodge minivan when my son was driving the panel.
You can't assume all the teenagers are unable handle high performance drive train, any more then you can assume all of them can. Each child is different.

Anthony and Mr. Sinister, thanks for the specs and details.
Never stop learning, and I wouldn't want to come across one and say something stupid.

  26. The debate about letting your kid drive this car is missing something: This is easily a 10-second 1/4 mile car, if not faster. What you had in the 60s or 70s on the street wouldn't touch it, no offense. The big difference is if you stay out of boost, this car is probably pretty docile, much unlike your hot 60s or 70s street car. If it's set up well, which I'd bet it is looking at the work, it's probably pretty easy to drive fast too. Sounds like he's a good, responsible kid and his family is into racing, so I'm sure he's got a good idea of what the car can do. I see no harm in letting him drive it so long as he's responsible with it.
