how well do they stay clean, do they get stained from your clothes (blue jeans etc)? i guess im just wondering if its worth it to do my car in all white. it isnt a daily driver by any means, so when im cruisin ill be in decent clothes....but i dont want something thats going to discolour easily and be impossible to clean. are there certain materials that work better? how is naugahyde? better than leather (cant afford leather anyway) how about that fake leather **** also, out of curiosity, how durable is that flaked zodiac vinyl? it looks *****in and it must be decent if they put it in restaurants where a million people rub all over it. school me thank you -jake
First time I ever got drunk I was sitting in the back seat of a friends 50 Ford coupe. It was a very nice ride; bleu Earl Scheib paint and white TJ tuck and roll with blue piping and blue carpets with white piping. He never got the yellow puke stains out. I am 63 so do the math. The correct answer is "back in the day." I'd go for it but dont let any under age punks drink beer in the back seat with the windows up.
I did Tee bucket with white marine grade "Genuine Nugahyde". It never discolored from clothing, but showed every drop of perspiration. We carried a spray can of Zip wax vinyl cleaner, and used it often. It always looked good.
I have white tuck and roll and use Simple Green on it and it cleans right up. The only stains I get are from bugs and dirt my clothing has never stained it. The interior has only been in for a year but has a lot of miles on it.
For cleaning get some of those MrClean Magic Erasers. They will clean stuff like I've never seen before. The interior of our convertible was very dirty until the wife spent some time with one of the erasers and it looks like new again. Bill
you cant beat the looks of an all white interior,,but,it will show up everything and get dirty easy,,,,i use simple green or the castrol brand and it cleans up good,,, ..not sure if its the brand of fabric the shop used,(we will not get into that as i specified marine vinyl when we discused the job,but the jack*** went ahead and used regular vinyl!!!)but anyways it seems like mine has lost a lil of its whiteness after a few years,,
As far as zodiac goes, be sure to get the "marine grade". It is not all UV resistant. Take a good look at the backing, if you can, too. The tighter the weave on the backing, the less likely it is to split along seam lines. I have not put it in a car, but have used zodiac for other applications. I mention the splitting from experience...
I owned a '51 Merc with all white 'hyde ,nice 1 1/4" pleats with white piping . It was a PITA to keep clean but it did look great . I could care less for the white but the '51 Merc , yeah !
I had a '73 Barracuda with white vinyl interior "back in the day" and found *****hose / nylon stockings rubbed in cracks and crevices along with some spray Pledge worked out great.
We have pearl white naugahyde in my son's coupe and I think it stays cleaner than straight white. Regular white is a flatter color and shows dirt more. Still not easy to keep clean though. Pat.
every inch of my 55 buick interior is white...take it out every 6-10 months and Westlys Whitewall cleaner it...Looks amazing for 6 months then do it again. ive had that interior for 7 years now. well worth it though...its great for the looks...but a pain to keep up.
My'57 Chevy is done in the 210 pattern. The part that would have been vinyl when stock, is white Naga-hide. I wouldn't do it again. If you tend to have a little grease under your finger nails, don't use white.
I had a 54 Chevy 210 with 62 T-bird interior all done in white T&R. But Wow, with 2 kids, ages 6 & 8 at the time, and my wife goes to the "fake-bake" tanning, it was a pain to keep clean. Same here. Simple green, or purple 409 did great. And my wife started sitting on a nice white towel, so the oils and lotion stuff didn't grind into the material. But, it looked awesome when clean.
Off-white vinyl seats in my 55, been in there almost 10 years, 50k miles or so...they clean up ok, there are a few light stains but I don't care too much. I drive the car sometimes when I'm pretty dirty from working on cars, it mostly seems to come out ok. The kids have spent a lot of time in the car, since they were about 5. This pic is recent.
I have a full white interior in my 57, all white vinyl press pleat. Yes, it goes get dirty easily, but i use soft scrub cleaner with bleach on it, cleans it up VERY easily and makes it look like brand new. Kind of a double edge sword having white interior, gets dirty easily, but cleans right up. Looks real good though. I had some burned rubber stuck to my *** after holding the back of a fenderless hot rod doing a burnout, then I got in my car. The burned rubber was by far the hardest thing to get out of white material.
Had it in my '56. Said I'd never do it again. But guess what? I'm going black and white in my '49. It's a custom guy's thing I guess Unless I decide to paint the car flat black with red wheels. Then I need Mexican blankies to snare the Orcabetties. Urk! Kidding, of course. White is a lot of work and you need to be careful, but it sure looks *****en in a custom/semi custom. Just don't spill red wine because it'll dye the stiching red. Remember, speed kills, but Ripple cripples
I love my red flaked Zodiac wnd white tuck n roll trim job. But I put a Mexican se**** balnket on the seat to keep the **** off and when it comes to show time, the blanket comes off. The Zodiac is holdin up real well, but this is in a chopped 3W coupe; ya dont get much UV thru the galssin one of those haha Rat
My pontiac has white naugahyde with silver zodiac inserts. The white gets dirty fast, but cleans up easy. the zodiac is *****in, easy to clean, hasn't faded or split. its been in the car roughly 2 years with lots of sun exposure, still looks great.
I have white tuck and roll, and white door panels. I wouldn't do all white again. The little spots from stuff being tracked onto it are easy to clean. But, the general overall dingeness from dust and dirt gets to be a pain in the ***. I like to drive with all the windows down, I never realized how much dirt just blows in until I got a white interior. I have about an acre of vinyl in my Fairlane, and it seems to take forever to get it clean. I'd definately break it up with a second color.
