Technical Where in the western US can I get two 9.5" aluminum wheels narrowed

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by movin/on, Apr 18, 2025 at 2:30 PM.

  1. I've got 2 aluminum wheels that look like those used on Cobra's. They were made by Compomotive. (UK company)
Two of the wheels are 9.5" wide and I'd like 2.5" inches taken out of the backspace. so they would end 7".
Found a company in BC Canada but I'm Leary to ship across the border at this time.
Any company names would be helpful. Prefer to stay west of Denver.

At one time Lonnie Gilbertson here in Portland did them, you might ask Marty Strode.

I know Eric Vaughan sold real wheels but is he still doing wheel repair?

My Buddy used to cut them and I’d weld them up . The correct way is to cut a key in them for strength and alignment . There was a lot of hours labor involved . Getting the correct filler rod as in same color for weld was tough also .

It's a shame that Willamette Wheel in Portland isn't still around. I did several sets of wheels with them in the 60s at $25 per wheel!

Eric Vaughn's narrowed several pairs of aluminum wheels for me. Flawless job. I've heard he's retired but can't confirm that?

  10. Try Rice Machine Works in Cedar City, Utah. Talk to Mike Rice 435-586-8401. They do some amazing aluminum welding.

Lonnie sold his shop, and isn't doing any outside work now. Just working on his own hotrods.
