Picked this up for nothing, 5x5 looks like 63" fl to flange. I thought it was a 9 inch but my searches say maybe 9-3/8? I don't think that's right, but the weird (possibly) brake mounts have me puzzled....anybody ? Thanks !
Lincoln Versailles had disc brake 9" (or 9 3/8") rears that were popular on '80's street rods. Replacement parts are no longer available, so their value has plummeted.
didn't the Versaille have 4.5" bolt circle? that's why I mentioned the big cars...he said it's 5 on 5
it's a 9, not 9-3/8. No curve on the top horizontal rib. Scrape the crap off the front of it where the nuts are that hold the center section in, see if there's still a metal tag under one of the nuts. It would have all the info you want about the rear.
I have one for my '27 Touring Car. It came out of a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V. The best way to build it is to utilize a 9" center section. As mentioned, there are no parts for the 9 3/8" center sections. The 9" center section will bolt right in and you can use your axles (28 spline) and Disc Brakes. VR&C.
IF I remember correctly- they run a 28 spline diff, check it for sure then..... buy a new car based smooth back 9'' case with small bearing ends to match the width of the 8'' put the 9'' diff into that slide in the shafts from the 8'' utilise the 10 by 1 3/4'' brakes 57.25'' wide 9'' axle with correct brakes for a little car in the ideal width 1928 - 1940 or, easy to find brake bits 1968 mustang complete brake set back plates out sub 100 bucks
