I have a couple of 1950’s Cadillacs, one nearly back on the road. I’ve always wanted a mid 50’s big convertible. I had been watching this car up for sale on Facebook for two years. I finally bought it Friday. It has been in storage for 35 years. It started its life in Lubbock Tx. It made its way to Austin where the current owner had it in storage. It has a set of re-chromed bumpers and grill with it. With a fresh battery and poured some gas down the carb and it fired up straight away. It is missing its original electric front seat and has a manual seat installed. Gets delivered to me on May 3rd.
Love it, I've always wanted a convertible from this era as well. And nice to start with a solid Texas car that runs, too.
I had a 54 Special convertible. Loved it. First thing I did was remove the continental kit. Made a huge difference in how it handled.
Continental kits just work with convertibles, I don’t know what it is. Do you know what kind of shape the transmission is in?
I don’t know about the transmission. The owners son remembers riding in it around the neighborhood before it was put into storage. It gets delivered to me Saturday. I’ve already purchased a new gas tank for it as I know he said the old one leaked.
Rebuilding the brakes today. I had to remove the seat. Floor pans are perfect. Had some work done in the past.
Was a pain getting this out. Mounted under the toe board. Is it a Delco Moraine unit? I replaced all of the wheel cylinders and shoes today as well as rubber lines. The master had a bad reservoir on it so need to find a replacement for that.
Looks solid, I seen this 56 Special pop up on marketplace recently, neat cars https://www.facebook.com/share/1EfLFUBVsU/
