Today's project, carpet that fits and doesn't look like ass. I had used some crappy patio carpet that I had, only because I had, temporarily. That "temporary" job turned into 2 years of being embarrassed by the job, so it was time for it to go. I insulated the firewall with some pretty slick self adhesive foam padding with a foil face, sealed up some seams and holes so it should be less hot and (maybe) a tad quieter. Well, as quiet as a roadster with straight pipes and a Hemi can be... Tomorrow I'll bind the carpet, cut some to glue onto the firewall and the job will be done.
Matching bias tape carpet binding. My wife's sewing machine has a walking foot, so it's easy. Carpet, padding, binding and matching burgundy carpet thread courtesy of Amazon. Bezos is a tool, but it makes shopping for hot rod stuff easy.
I went to a thrift store and bought an electric carving knife to cut carpet with. It's also the only thing I use to cut thick foam padding.
See if you can find somebody with a carpet binder. [pay them] here's some I did for myself from offcut's [wool carpet] If you want that classic look use soft wide polyester webbing and sew it in 2 stages [trimming not needed underneath] These are better. Keep them sharpened You need to cut along the "warp n weft" properly
Haha, right? That is so true. I have to admit that being down here (sunny Florida) and retired, I find myself with "nothing to do". The house, which kept my really busy the past three years is "done". The yard is done, or as much as it needs to be given that we're not here 5 1/2 months of the year, my backyard bar is "done" , so I've found myself this year looking for things to do. This year it's been tidying up little things on the roadster that I'd been tolerating since I started driving it. Like the carpet. It looked OK at at a glance, but it was really quite awful. I'd done it go the Kalamazoo Nat's North in a rush, from scraps left over from another project, so it didn't have bare floors and I'd simply quit looking at it. I'm glad I got after it.
CON2R, the manufacturer of that wheel, is a part of the Lokar family of products now. It will be great they'll be available to order again, they haven't been for a while.
My wife Kim bound the carpet this afternoon, it looks great. She did much better job than I would've done.
