I just bought a '57 Dodge more door w/ 38K original miles. It has a 325 CID 2bbl Red Ram Hemi w/ a cast iron torqueflite tranny. It was in excellent condition until the shop it was stored in burned dowm the car was not burned however the windows were broken and there is a lot of smoke and water damage. What is a running 325 worth? How about the torqueflite? I plan on parting the car out. What parts should I keep for my next early Ford project? I was thinking about just pulling the motor & tranny (w/ accessories). Is there anything else that I should grab (Rear end, driveline, etc.)? I don't imagine that there is much demand for the rest of the carcass. How tough is it to pick up a 4bbl manifold for a Red Ram? It is a 3 1/2 hour drive to pick it up, so it will be a couple of weeks before I can post some photos.
A running 2 bbl Hemi is worth about $600-1000 depending on the buyer. you can't get much in the way of speed parts 'cause there mostly available for the 331-354-392 chryslers. You should be able to pick up a stock 4bbl for it for about $75. Standard rebuild parts are readily available from Hot Heads(Powerplay), Kanter or Egge. The Torqueflite(727) is a pretty good Tranny and used in all the Mopars from '57 till the early 60's.
You ought to post that car on the chrysler page. You are too far for me but I would take the whole car and I know someone on there would too. If you have trouble posting on their board let me know, I'm a member and can post it for you. www.forwardlook.net
I looked at that one on Oldcartraderonline.com about a billion times. If it had been at all close I'd have grabbed it. I love those things, even with four-doors. It'd make a great bomb with a 383 and duals.
The hemi and torque flite are worth absolutly nutin' want my address? Keep the complete drivtrain. The grill bar and bumpers are good for custom '57 Fords (perhaps chebbys), and keep the headlights and headlight doors. All good pieces for 60s style customs. Someone will probably want the quarters and the dash. If the steering wheel isn't completely melted down it may be of value to some one, and if its a pushbutton auto (I just can't remember) you'll need that stuff too. good find
"A running 2 bbl Hemi is worth about $600-1000 depending on the buyer" I wish I had known that several years ago. I found a '52 Dodge Royal in the Woods along with a Stude Commander and a couple of early 60's Dodge Wagons. I don't know which Hemi it was in the Royal, but it was definitely a Hemi and said "Super Red Ram" on the Valvecovers. Automatic Shifter poked straight out of the Dash kind of like something you would see on an old Boat. I didn't figure they were going anywhere so I didn't get in any great hurry about them. By the time I figured out who owned the land, it had been sold. The ex owner said he would have let me have them just to get rid of them. The new owner wouldn't even talk to me about them. I don't know what he did with them, but they are all gone now. (I still sneak in there Mushroom Hunting every spring )
I was wondering when someone was gonna buy that thing. It's been in the Auto trader since last summer.....Looks like a good deal!
The senior that owned it practically gave it to me. I'll give it a good home..........at least some of it. Viva la Hemi!
I pretty much only need the motor & tranny for my new T project. You are welcome to come over after I pick it up and pick over the remains (may they rest in pieces).
