OT Wheels: What are your favorites?

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by Mr. Sinister, Apr 23, 2025.

  1. I have always been partial to the Weld Draglite and Prostar (anybody know when the Prostar was introduced?), and the Center Line Convo Pro. But I want to know what you like on a muscle car.
    What you got?

I was watching videos of Modified Production and Pro Stock from the 70's on Youtube the other day, really had a go-back moment with all the cars that had Cragar Super Tricks.
Had these in the mid/late 70's, former Pro Stocker.

Honestly, I think many of the modern (1990s -2015 ish) factory aluminum wheels look pretty sharp.
I'm still not impressed with the huge wheels (18" is the upper limit) with the rubber band tires. I understand why they are going that way, but they just don't look that good to me.

  4. I had a set of SSTs on a 78 Dodge van, and my old 87 Camaro. Heavy as hell, but looked sharp.

I put Pro Stars on my Rambler American when they were fairly new, late 80's?

  7. I've honestly been finding im slowly but steadily losing interest in most muscle car style wheels. Ran so many cragers over the years they give off a stock wheel vibe to me. If I had to have a muscle car it'd likely get the appropriate Rallye wheel. Or even chrome reverse. But the torque thrust with non polished centers do still look good to me. And I hope to have a set for one of the rotations on the 53. Though I guess they technically aren't off topic unless you go off the material lol Screenshot_20250423-215257.png

Minilite’s. Not common, unique, timeless, and good looking.
Back in the day I ran them on my Comet GT and my Lincoln Versailles.

  9. Best looking wheel out there in my opinion, they would make a garbage truck look good! HRP

Minilites for the win, but only if they are deep. No 15X5.5!

As for the AR TTs, that's what I ended up with on my current project. Very happy.

Torq Thrust , Not all have the Look ,
Spoke design to me are critical,
    I think spoke's look better the more pointer, & color of spoke's , Goldish Gray , Magnesium , #7..
& the Original Center Lines Auto Drag ,
    Satin & some full polished
But to Me the rear wheel needs depth & alot of side wall , No thread on
    side wall.
    On front I like 3-1/2 or 4 with 50/50
    On my Egg
    Front M/T
    Rear E/Ts

  13. The original Pro Star is my jam. My 81 Z28 had them on it when I got it and I'd be lying if I said they didn't sway me a little bit on the car. I think they look sharp as hell on it.

I'm also a big fan of the Torq Thrust with the dull spokes, I've got a set on my 55. Only wheel for that car in my opinion.

I like all of the wheels posted above except the gold Lamborghini wheels. They are cool, but don't look good on anything other than what they came on.

Top 5 for me that I feel instantly make any vehicle look cooler...

  18. I'm partial to 5 spoke wheels in general but my real favorite was the Centerline Convo pros that were on the back of my dragster. They were so much lighter than anything before them. I thought they were an engineering masterpiece. :)

  19. As far as off topic wheels go ....

I had Weld pro stars on my truck since 93, I liked them best when I covered them with Moon discs.

    102_5918.jpg 20191014_222813.jpg

I had drag lights on a 58 pickup, those were pretty light.

    FB_IMG_1525781709742.jpg

My favorite would probably be super tricks though, get that early pro stock vibe going. I do like the super slots as a close second, a wheel you don't see a lot of.
M/T has some nice looking new drag wheels, certainly not a fan of any big ass donk wheels !

    Nice looking Z,
    I probably had 15 or so from 67- 82
    Over the years ,
The Ones on your Z , I do not believe to be Weld Stars , I do not recall the countersunk lug nuts , Maybe Jegs Version or very late 90s,
    One thing with Weld ,
Earlier caps press Aluminum ,then there later caps where Tin Version
    To my opinion Ugly
Squared off , a reset pocket on the end for brand sticker , Not bullet shaped,
On all the Welds I ran , On front No cap
    With Crome dust cover ,
    Rear Non ,
Caps will make the Look of Wheel also I feel ,

Weld Rod Lights look nice on most all ,

There where times , I ran different wheels between Left & Right o_O

older made Cragar SS/T work on pretty much all,
    Just heavy .

The Look I think relates to how vehicle sits Fender down over Tires from
    Late 40s - mid 80s body

On Camaro / Pontiac there are many OEM to me look good
    67- 82 ish

The Weld Pro Stars came out in the later 80’s and I had one of the first sets in the area. They were Bob Glidden signature series and I had them on my ‘74 Plymouth Duster pro mod I built. 15x15 in the rear and 15x3 in the front I’ll have to find the pictures of the car but it was knarly as hell.

    Everything looks better on Minilites.

I've known them since my dad had them on a Fiat 850 Coupé, bought new in 1967.

  24. Thanks!!
I'm pretty certain they're knockoffs, Jegs is my bet judging by some of the other Jegs branded parts on the car.
I actually prefer the countersunk lugs, gives them a cleaner look in my opinion.
I do want to go a little wider on the tire in the front. It's a 165/80-15 currently and I'd like to be on a 185-205. I have a set of 4" Torq Thrusts with a 205 tire on them, so I know they'll fit a 4" wheel.

I am partial to original style factory rally wheels if I can’t have chrome reverse and baby moons IMG_3526.jpeg IMG_3331.jpeg 38237A4D-33C0-41AC-A97C-F3E84AE6F9CB.jpeg
