I am working on upgrading my 64 Galaxie 500. I am in process of securing a running 390 Thunderbird 4v fe engine from a 64 Galaxie. It will be a slow build probably as I am going to put the engine on a stand and upgrade while in my garage, as time and resources allow. Here is a picture or two of the car as it is now.

That looks like a really nice car. 64’s are my favorite.

  3. What engine is currently in it? As I always mention on threads involving fe engines I love the engines and awful lot considering Im such a diehard gm guy lol.

That 64 is one of my favorite years for Ford Galaxy's, I really like the black walls and the black rims with the stylish choice of Ford Hubcap/wheel covers! Brings mack memories of when in the 60's, when NASCAR races actually ran real stock cars that had real bodies on them.

Thank you. I am a huge ol nascar fan and the 64 was an icon of racing in the 60's.

  7. I had 3 of them, 2 powered by a 352, 1 by a 390.

The '64 Gal was a sleek spaceship when introduced. I believe that chassis became a Nascar staple for many years.
    Nice one!

Fun fact: Even the other NASCAR brands used the '64 Galaxie style chassis until they all switched to tube chassis.

Even a stockish 390 FE will be a big upgrade over a 302 in these rather large cars. Just make sure you also adjust your drivetrain gearing for the completely different torque and horsepower curve.

Absolutely gorgeous car. You can't beat that wheel/tire/hubcap combo on mid/late 60s musclecars if if you ask me. I'll be watching!

  14. Some teams used the Galaxie front stub only.

Thats a nice car. I have a soft spot for 63.5/64 Big Fords. I sold my 64 a couple of years ago and miss it. 390 Z code car, but it was a bench seat 4 speed car which is pretty cool. Not an XL.

I have casually been looking for another but would prefer a 63.5. And in the mercury flavor at that.
