she got that steering wheel with the car... it was in the trunk.. that was the rush to put the smaller tires... she drives it fine with the little wheel though , she stays a tad under 110 lbs..I'm a little over 200.... I feel like a bear try'n to get in and out of a chicken coupe with the top up

Man, you really don't get it.. this is not a survivor only site it is a traditional hot rod forum, meaning if you can build it to look like it was built in 1965 or before it does not matter if you use all brand new parts as long as the parts appear as they did in 65... does not matter that a brookville body is new, it looks just like a real 32.. here is a link to the rules for posting on the site

anyway, back to bird in hand...wheels are gonna be tough.....the rear end has me head scratching....I'm thinking someone put a mustang rear in this car...but, I don't know by looking,... and I think a Bird rear is more narrow...and thats why they put the positive off set wheels... and had to use spacers on the front to get the wheel out and match the rear??????????? if those in the know can post how wide a stock 55 bird rear is that would be great...I'm gonna have to research it more...I have a comet rear in my junk pile... it's 56''....

Man it seems that a lot of times you just enjoy stirring up the pot and then say hold my beer and watch this. My first thought was that those wheels don’t look quite right on that car but I always try and keep my mouth shut. I say to myself, self it’s his car and I’m happy for him if he’s happy with it. It’s all good in the end no need to take being moved so personal.

probably because people like you over post nonsense.

you've hinted at thinking the rear end has been changed like 3 or 4 times in this thread (judging by how ROUND it is??) but haven't posted any pictures of it, or even noting WHY it matters if it has.

It seems to me you like to hear yourself talk.

dude, you posting 4 times since I posted is exactly what i'm talking about.

IF you actually want to know if the rearend has been changed POST A PICTURE AND ASK.

and what are "normal wheels?" ones that are round?

be clear, be concise, ask questions respectfully, and the knowledge of the Hamb is here to help.

like saaid..... with all the cars I get , I find the weird stuff...looking at the car.... I personal never liked drag star wheels the first time I seen them.... then when I seen the ones on this car... easy fix... change the wheels and tires... not so..when the fronts came off... rear head scratcher...they 're 8'' wide...??? and have 2'' spacers... i figured they did that to match the rear wheels??? I REMEMBER PUTTING 8'' WHEEL ON THE REAR.. SOME 40 YRS AGO..
but they were not positive off set and had to trim the wheel opening lip to not rub... whiile on the lift.... there's a 1'' lowering block just on the right side....drag race set up??? car sets pretty flat... which makes me think that the rear has been swapped....it has a mustang motor and trans, which makes me think that they put the rear out of the doner car??? but again... don't know how to tell. and don't know how wide a 55 bird rear is..

next... not sure on the wheels yet... or what will fit.... and like said, I have a comet V8 rear that looks to be 4'' narrower than whats in thereso proble have to do a rear swap.... wife is out driving the car right now... she likes the wheels.. and it works fine...

besides a hot dinner and a piece of ass.... this is what I got in trade...

    Per Google … AI
    • Rear Axle Housing Width: 65 inches (standard), 68 inches (E-series van version).

  20. 57.25 is listed pretty often as rear end width at wheel mounting surface for the t-bird, the comet rear should be 56.75

I can't verify the numbers but I do know that many people get in trouble with their width callouts because they never understood that establishing the "wheel mount surface to wheel mount surface" dimension is the standard way of moving forward on a project.
Swap meets are full of NEW wheels because people have commited to a certain rearend and wheel (style) without knowing what is available from any given mfg.

    thank for replying
thats what I was thinking,.. but close as I can tell the rear end is closer to 60, which is why they had to go to those wheels to get that much positive off set...

and again... I should have measured while the front wheel was off... but i'm guessing there is a 5.5 back space

thanks for the reply,... i'm guessing, but like said... some one did exact what you said... took a mustang donor , got the motor/trans/ and rear end and put it in the bird... then found out no wheels fit it... so the ones they bought went on market place or to the swap meet..
