Like the ***le says, looking to put tube shocks on a 38 chevy with a straight axle. As near as I can see they first were on 39(??)'s,. So, is there an aftermarket "kit" available to install them or is this something thats going to be fabbed up in the garage? If you fabbed some post up some pics!! Nor sure where to put this thread so mods move it if Im in the wrong place

Mine is a '39, but mine is a Master Deluxe Sport Coupe, so it came with control arm suspension and the knee action shocks. I wanted a I beam axle, so I had to fabricate the shock mounts at both the axle and frame. It was very easy to do so, and I built the lower mounts to sandwich between the U bolt plate and nuts and have a stud the shock eye slips over for the lower mount. At the top I built a bracket out of 1/8" wall 1.5" box tubing and welded it to the side of the frame rails.

Couldn't find a picture of my upper mount, but I just cut the box tubing at an angle to get it out inline with the lower mount and has a hole through the tubing at the end for the upper shock eye.

I did it on my ‘38 truck. You can see pics in my build thread. The link is in my signature.

Butch's Rod Shop, I think they were in Ohio, used to sell lots of ch***is components for early Chevys. Their shock mounts were fairly short and bolted to the frame with four bolts. At least that's what I remember. I would think that some of the current aftermarket pieces would work, even the F-1 style that SoCal used to have. I think it's going to depend on what shock you're planning to run.

Mine are short so finding shocks is tough. On the trucks, there plenty of room to go much taller.

If you bolt to the frame be sure to sleeve and weld in sleeves . Do not just bolt to hollow top hat style frame there is nothing there but sheet metal , your asking for Mr Murphy to arrive later down the road if you don’t sleeve the bolts .
