IMG_6523.jpeg Some of you guys were asking about this photo, I posted it over on the Banger thread quite a while ago... it's from an older friend of mine's grandfather when he was home in'43. San Diego, I believe. I've got a couple of pics of the completed rpu and it definitely fits this thread! :)

...I've shared the pic at the bottom of the second image some time ago. I found a more comprehensive story on it on FB. I always like finding info supporting random images shared here. This one had an extensive history shared...I will share and add to this post. I will credit John Johanson regarding the images shared here that I posted...it was his father who was a friend of Jerry's I'm gathering by this story...

The link takes you to the post at Tim's FB page and the info I shared was in the comments on the pic he shared...

No problem, per se, but other than the body perhaps being from 1932 Plymouth, I don't see anything else to qualify it as such.

OTOH, in my view, for any car to qualify as designated year, make & model, should have at least two out of three* major components from given make/model, preferably original ones from same exact example.

*Body (+ any & all panels, if present), chassis/frame (incl. suspension, etc) and drive train (or at least the engine), but not necessarily always in that order.
For example, in many postwar vintage coach-/hand-built luxury or sports cars, the chassis is most important, engine is the second and body becomes last, while in similar pre-war cars the engine was often the first importance (& with serial number), chassis second & body last.

Carry on and don't mind me.;)

    I see.

Well, I think that most of us here understand about the classic cars and the hierarchy of the chassis vs the drivetrain vs the body. But this is hot rods. And when it comes to hot rods, the body comes first. No matter, the other components. If it has a 1929 Ford roadster body on a 1932 Ford frame with a Hemi engine, it's a 1929 Ford Roadster. If it's a fiberglass 1929 Ford Roadster body on a dump truck chassis with a Briggs & Stratton motor, it's still a 1929 Ford Roadster. If it's a 1932 Plymouth Coupe body on a deuce frame with a Hemi engine, it's certainly a 1932 Plymouth Coupe.

    What would the alternative be?
What else would you call it?

Btw, that's a damn nice hot rod Plymouth Coupe I posted. You should take a look at the four-wheel drive rig I posted previously if you want something to pick at. I might even agree with you.

But it too, is still a 1932 Plymouth Coupe.

Fits the Thread to me...just being a Hotrod Mopar. They were often overlooked but really can steal the show. It doesn't need a Deuce grill and shell either even though it was done. That would get a good looking over by me if it happened upon a local show our way. It's a modern build but it reaches back.

@PBRdstr please share a pic of your Roadster...it won't be it's first appearance here. Did you happen to talk to Ryan about getting back into your old profile? @TTR

Let's see em! Pics of Grandpas Hotrod in that pic you shared? That pic even though it's vintage, it's been photo filtered and it seems that's being done to a lot of vintage pics I see...especially on FB.

"But this is hot rods" ???

My wife's late model Honda hybrid can become a "hot rod", especially if you put a fiberglass Model A Ford body on it's frame/platform, Briggs & Stratton or a 426 Hemi in it, but in my view it's still a Honda ("hot rod" ?), not a "Model A with a Briggs & Stratton or a Hemi".

In my mind, there's a lot more to period correct, traditional, vintage "hot rods" than I care to explain or list "alternative" names for many of the images posted here, but it would likely not only upset many or perhaps most "regulars" and possibly get me banned or at least shunned, so let's just leave it at that and carry on, OK ? :)

NO. IT CAN'T Maybe some kind of POS street rod but nothing that belongs here. And I'm one of the ones here who get tired of the " traditional/period correct" limits here but real hot rods have rules!

Care to elaborate, as this ^ is one of the funniest things I've heard/read in my nearly 50 year interest in and involvement with hot rods (& other vintage cars) ?

Most of us were enjoying this thread quite a bit. Do you think maybe you could let us get back to doing that? I'm sure we can't hold a candle to the knowledge you possess.
    Thanks, pal.

Weird posts aside, is that the original finish on the wheels or did you polish that outer rim? Regardless, Billy like! My wheels have a machined finish, and it looks good but everything else on my roaster is hard polished. I have always thought about changing that. Love your Hemi Plymouth.

  27. The front wheel looks modern. Or maybe it's not American. Anyone know what it's from?
