This was a surprise. I mean, there are lots of surprises with this body, but I wasn’t expecting the rail to be cut on one side…
Mine are cut on both sides. That's the current holdup here. As to your other question, Once you fix that cut, i would suggest spraying the underneath and the firewall first. F around with mounting and shimming and door fit. Spray the fancy bits after.
Vision… Thank you, Zach. Now what to do about that cut rail…? And man I’m not looking forward to trying to square and shim this body. This is new territory for me.
Is flooding normal for the area? We camped at the foot of the Austin dam, but that flooded due to poor infrastructure, not weather. Beautiful area of PA that you live in!
It is beautiful here. One of the valleys I always was drawn to. We get high water, but never like this. Hell of it is, I went after grants to restore 13 acres of wetlands and do stream improvements. Adding capacity doesn’t matter when the upper end of the watershed gets a 1:1000 year rain event!
Our 1:1000 year events seem to be coming a lot more often. It's much more windy than it used to be,too. Straight line winds did $14K damage to our barn last summer. Did you know that the Arrowhead Restaurant has a cruise in every Tuesday evening? Might be something Mr. Spencer would enjoy.
Brushes with Spencer and Nora is going to be quite the adventure. But what 8 and 10 year olds can say they painted a car??
Hi, friend! We’ve noticed the wind in the valley has been getting worse as well. We have a lot of trees down along the nature trails I need to get to. Did winds rip off siding and roof or send trees into the barn? I didn’t know about the Arrowhead! We’ll need to check that out. Have they started for the year yet?
Tomorrow… 1. Paint bottom (underside) and interior panels of body 2. Paint running board brackets 3. Paint front fender irons 4. Paint drop headlight bar 5. Paint 17” wheels I intend to run on the front (wheels without tires don’t float away…!) 6. Resist temptation to get ahead of myself by throwing the body on the ch***is…
Arrowhead says they started last week. The wind took down the old enclosed wooden silo and a fair chunk of roof. No damage from trees but we are investing a LARGE amount of money removing damaged or unwanted overgrown scrub trees. Literally a case of spending thousands of dollars and then having nothing to show for it! Check your PMs.
I agree...but all in due time... looking at your firewall, you can say...'sure does run quiet' in my part of the country, I live in a high desert area and we have just not had any moisture...14" of snow in November then a couple of snows, in April, that put us at maybe 17" for the year so far. we used to average over 100" in a season...on top of that, we have had many windy days with gusts up to 70-80 mph with power outages of some length. I just cut and chipped about 50 mature pinion trees that were a combination of dead fall and dying from bark beetle. I probably have another 100 dying and will need to keep after them....not to diminish your Herculean efforts of recovery....all of this cuts into the 'fun time' your return to this project brings me joy....it is good therapy... Carry on!
Oh we’re carrying on! 1. Paint bottom (underside) and interior panels of body DONE 2. Paint running board brackets DONE 3. Paint front fender irons DONE 4. Paint drop headlight bar DONE 5. Paint 17” wheels I intend to run on the front (wheels without tires don’t float away…!) Thinking on this a little bit… 6. Resist temptation to get ahead of myself by throwing the body on the ch***is…
My friend Martinbuilt has fenders for this heap… just need to schedule a cannonball run to western PA to snag them. Wheels/tires. Right now I’m solidly within a 1937 build date style- and technology-wise. I’m currently considering 650-16 rears and 525/550-17 fronts. Goodyear and Lucas, respectively. Thoughts?
Solo is the mode here. Just think it out and be safe. If there is no one to help there is no one to stop the bleeding.
