I started work on the Ruby hood to fill the gap from the 6" engine bay extension and the 4" widening then added the third vent. Resized_20250424_175112_1745544722078.jpeg Resized_20250425_110024_1745630176045.jpeg Resized_20250425_171332_1745630180297.jpeg

I'll trim the bottom edge after mounting the fenders to deter, mine the placement of the hood latches.

Finally got the rear end out of the 51. Now I’m drilling out the rivets holding the rear spring hangers on the frame. Transmission and Engine will be out by Monday (barring complications) and then I can pull the front suspension and brake master cylinder. I am now wondering if I should take the body off and have the frame blasted or just paint it and call it good. I still have to do some supports for the roll cage and a crossmember for the transmission as well as a driveshaft loop. If I have the frame blasted, I could leave it bare while I build and weld then paint it. Or I could just wire wheel it and paint it and call it good enough for the girls I run with.
Shot of spring hanger shows the lack of rust on the frame. upload_2025-4-25_23-12-4.jpeg

  7. Was working on the rear end (Ford 9")
    Shaft seals started leaking.
When I pulled the axles they looked like they had a coating of glitter on them.
    Ordered new bearings.
Pulled the 3rd member out and took it in to have it gone through.
    Cleaned out the housing.

Following day our 2 year old daughter was diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

It seems like we have been in and out of Childrens hospital in the last 3 weeks than at home . Got re-admitted this afternoon.
Killing time right now while she sleeps...

The plan is to get everything buttoned up on the car because she always wants to sit in the car and she loves going for rides around the block.

No joke, if I take her into the garage she will point and say hotrod, then she points again and wants to sit in the car, honk the horn, she tells me to sit down... then she give me a look like "why aren't we moving yet"

Hope she gets better soon, she sounds well educated, in a blink of an eye she’ll be driving and doing all the stupid things you used to do!!

Feeling sad about your little 2 year old daughter. But I'm hoping, and praying, that she will be well very soon.

More on the Fenton headers. I've gone back looking at posts that others have made about these on a '48, and I've not seen any reference to a clearance problem at the back of the header on the driver's side. The only way I can see to get a header pipe connected is to cut out the top of the opening in the frame where the stock pipe would have gone. Am I missing something here or is removing part of the frame the only way to get it done. The part needing removal is circled in yellow.

View from inside of the frame looking forward.

My heart goes out to anyone going through those types of medical issues. It really puts things in perspective when I'm whining about help not showing up. Having children or grandchildren that would give anything to be there and can't because of something out of their control is way worse than them being healthy and strong and wanting to do something else. Especially when the thing preventing them from being there puts them in danger. I'll keep your granddaughter in my prayers.

    Update from # 5123.
Sometimes the little things turn into big headache; The intake home made/partly, thermostat housing, has started leaking,no matter what I seem to do. Now tryed fix 4 times, still leaking;just in in top now vs 1st 3 times was bottom.
So going to have to do some welding. To get gasket match up each side/all around to hold. One of those thing that worked fine for years, now it dose not. Will the 5th try work? we'll see. Got 6 mile away from home.before it started leaking on 4 try. o_O:confused:

Final assembly started on the front end.
Engine and transmission in so I can piece together the exhaust system. They will come out one more time, so I can run the fuel and brake lines. IMG_3655.jpeg
