I was on the BookFace the other day and stumbled across a 1940 Chevy Special Deluxe somewhat close to me. It didn’t look like much but I went and took a look. After a little internal debate, I pulled the trigger and it came home with me for a steal of a price! I spent about 30 minutes cleaning the plugs (fouled), swapping out the battery (6V) and putting in a replacement coil and it fired right up. My plan was to take it to Spring Carlisle to flip it, and while I was there I was going through the records and extras that came with the car. That included the owners manual, the original 1940 registration card, ….and the service records showing that the car has had 2 oil changes in its life and a light engine “overhaul” in 1982 where some gaskets were replaced. Yes, the car only had two oil changes because it has less than 5,000 original miles! I plan to dig some more to get the full story but this was likely a case where someone bought the car, drove it some, then went off to war and didn’t come home. It was repainted at some point and the drivers door got clipped and replaced. But I have no reason to believe the mileage isn’t accurate. I have driven it some more and the odometer works just fine! Enough of the rambling, here’s the pics! As I found & bought it.
