That front mount is normal for a Chev. or GMC 6, so are the radiator openings.

Sorry for the lack of pics the other day, I totally forgot to take any of the engine, but will be in the shop this weekend, so I should be able to make a little progress and show it here.

To make up for that, here's what showed up in the mail today from Grady in Wyoming (@jet996 on here), who turned loose of some unobtanium at a fair price and was very helpful overall!

He said this came from an old friend who has since passed on and that he had used it on a drag car back in the day. 2 out of three Tillotson YRCs are present, just need to source a third and match their setups. 20250425_221044.jpg 20250425_212745.jpg

Got the drive train torn down a little further last weekend. Engine won't turn over so, still struggling to get the rest of the clutch assembly and bellhousing off. I have the engine upright now and not on its side, so now the cylinders are soaking. Engine was removed from a cab over maybe 2 years ago and has been under a tarp until last winter when a storm blew it away, so I'm hoping the water ingress has been minimal. There was no water in the oil pan. The spark plugs were only about finger tight, so I'm guessing some did get down in the cylinders. Every bolt so far has not been rusted in place and turned out easily so there's hope! That last lifter bore seemed to be the worst as far as rust bloom goes. 20250427_154851.jpg 20250427_154851.jpg 20250427_154851.jpg 20250427_154844.jpg 20250427_151348.jpg 20250427_151339.jpg

Now, my real question is, could this car have had the oil pan shortened and a remote sump used? There is an oil tank in the car with 2 lines heading to the engine bay. One large and one smaller. 20250413_141612.jpg 20250406_152606.jpg

I have a Barnes setup for a SBC that uses a pump in the stock location for both scavenge and pressure sides.

I wonder if you couldn't modify your stock pump to do the same.

I was wondering if that's what they had done for the original engine in this car. Almost everything seems home made or "hillbilly engineered"

That doesn't surprise me at all. It was the era that if you saw something that looked good and you wanted it, you got busy and made a copy of it yourself. Most of the guys from that era only needed to see a fix for a problem they had once, when they saw it solved a problem they had, it inspired them to get busy.

Made a good find this past weekend. I dragged this old race trailer home from Ft. Wayne Indiana. Made by Elmer Harpe. I was told Mr. Harpe welded many trailers for open wheeled cars from the area. It's really well designed and built and made the 250 mile trip back home with no issues. It should be the perfect thing to haul my Super Modified around on, and correct to the era. 20250510_193418.jpg 20250510_193406.jpg 20250510_193457.jpg

I'm going ro be looking for some advice on building up this 270 soon... if I can get it unstuck! So far I've got the head off and 2 or 3 cylinders holding back a mix of Kroil and Marvel that hasn't seeped past the rings yet after about a week of soaking.

  14. The last stuck 261 I had I cut the bellhousing way to get the pressure plate and flywheel bolts, so I could get to the bellhousing bolt then put a prybar on the crankshaft dowls.

I always remember to wear my steel toe Converse!
