I have this 53 club coupe... pretty rare car... most don't know the difference till it's pointed out...so here goes... the club coupe has a shorter roof, and a longer trunk..also came with a rear seat and sliding rear windows... where as the business coupe with the same body did not have the seat or sliding rear windows... it is in print that 1953 was the last year chevy made a coupe,.... but,... there are places on the net....miss print,... that say they made a coupe in 54.. but... it has the same roof and body as the sedan....
the car has the norm... 327 ,auto trans... lowered. then there's those wheels again... old school hod rod wheels... I chose the chrome wheels because there is so much brite work on this car..... love them or hate them is up to you.. but I love them and not gonna change them...
so my description would be resto rod/mod, it has no body mods and all the factory trim is still there, as is factory seating..
My folks had a 49 Coupe a few years after I came home from the hospital (I tink!) I do remember the sliding rear window and it was a chore for my Dad to slide it open. Also.....the little ****on in the p***enger side door jamb....the ****on that turns the courtesy light off/on... EZ to get your finger SMASHED when your Mother slams the door while you're playing with the ****on !!! My Dad swappped this one off for a FoMoCo product....... Good move. 6sally6
I've never slid the rear windows.... but one time in band camp I stuck my finger in a....................
Reminds me of the joke about the guy in a pickle factory that got fired for putting his finger in the pickle slicer..... She got fired too. Great looking coupe! How about more pictures???!!!
Resto-mod is a BOZO word for 50’s up cars with stock appearing bodys, later year powertrains, and goofy looking conestoga rims, and fork truck tires.. Mostly used by TV commentators for auctions to sound like know what are talking about. Yes it’s my opinion. PS: your 53 looks great and I’d own and drive in a heart beat!
I don't think I've ever seen one of those. Neat car, kinda like the 49 Ford's business coupe versus the longer version.
Slides about 3 inches straight back, into the rear pillar. Only the 1949-1952 DeLuxe Sport Coupes and the 1953 210 Club Coupe were like this.
went to pull it out to take some pics...brake peddle went to the floor... it pumped up, so thought I'd check the master....they put it under the floor.... then carpeted over it... so now the seat has to come out to check the brake fluid
ALLDONE, you are correct. 53 was the last year for the short roof Club Coupe. In 54, Chevrolet introduced the 210 Delray Club Coupe. A 210 two door sedan with an upscale vinyl interior only available with the Delray option. Marketed as a Club Coupe, this option was available thru 57, it lived on for 58, but in name only before disappearing forever. Additionally, at least on tri fives, a 210 two door sedan was model number 2102, while a Delray Club Coupe was model number 2124.
there's a lot of mystery to the 53's, once you see one you can pick then out... but they are few and far between... pretty rare car today
Back in the late 80’s I missed an opportunity to own one of these. I ended up with a 54 210 as a junior in high school. Would still love to come across one at some point.
you can make those windows roll down somehow or another. there is a 49 Coupe at Pleasanton goodguys these last few years that has it done along with one piece door gl***.
lotta work what they did to that car.... reality is 99% of the people that look at it would think thats how it came..the work it took to put a bow tie 3rd brake light in the middle of the trunk???? or the vett tail lights???they shaved every thing then went back and stuck **** on ????
