  2. I worked a bit at a local tire shop and we had this service writer that didnt know jack crap about cars but knew it all; my supervisor and I were a bit slow so I called the shop from line 3 using our shop phone...

"In an odd voice, Yeah uh Hi, I am looking for a water pump for my 59 Volkswagen Beetle"

I was in hold for about 20 minutes...

guy comes back, "hey I cant locate any part numbers but I have calls into ...."

Before he could finish I just started busting up laughing.

I had a very positive encounter today.
It’s voting day here in Canada, I drove the cobra to the polling station.
An old gentleman dressed up in a suit and tie walked up to the car and said
“I don’t know anything about cars, but this one is beautiful”

In all your years haven’t you learned you can get the last word in while talking to those of the female persuasion if you just say “yes mam” lol

My German cars attract all sorts of attention… one of my favorite comments was, ‘nice Porsche. Is it a Targa?’

    it’s quite clearly a coupe.

I got to use my favorite response today. I had the shop door open, leaving the contents visible.

A passing motorists asked: "What year is it?!"

I looked left and right carefully, and shouted: "It's 2025!"

Years ago, I was loading wood in the back of a 37 Chevy Kingcab streetrod pickup I had built. A guy started a conversation how his uncle had one just like mine when he was younger. I politely tried to explain that mine was a custom build using parts from a couple trucks. He then started lecturing me how wrong I was and insisted that GM made a truck like mine in 1937. I simply ended the conversation and told him he was lucky to have an uncle with such a cool old truck. My current 56 ElCamino and a newer Gen5 custom wagon also get a lot of comments. Unless they ask how I created the builds, I try really hard to not engage in conversation with them.

I used to work with a guy who was a carpenter like me but he was not a car guy and we got into an argument about corvettes being steel bodies. If went on for days. Some people will never get it .

Never argue with an idiot. It can be hard for people watching to work out which one the idiot is......

It's too bad GM didn't build it -- It would have been a real winner!

Another take on arguing with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Pretty sure I'd never have a perfect paint job on anything I own, but it does make the point about "paint jail" and all its facets. I'd never touch anyone's car, but the huge number of people who don't get that sure makes perfect paint on a car at a show an absolutely terrifying proposition for me (at least.)

I was at a stoplight in my Factory Five Cobra.
A guy pulled up in a new Mercedes and asked what it had under the hood.

I said it had one of Hector’s spoon engines with a t66 turbo with nos and a motec system exhaust from Harry’s.

He gave me a thumbs up and said “just like the old school” and then drove off smiling.

Alot of these comments are from jealous people, they are probably not allowed to have a cool car, mayby their better half force them to drive a ugly modern car.
All these comments, they are bad for the enviroment, the sunvisor is ugly, thats not original, bla bla, I couldnt care less, got my cars for my own pleasure not for someone elses.

I try to focus on the positive comments, yes it happens, sometimes you meet total strangers and talk for hours

Really want to screw with the Ford experts run Ford Script valve covers on your SBC in a model A PU.
You will get self proclaimed ford engineers saying they designed the 302 Ford in my truck and how it's good I didn't wreck it with a damn Chevy .
I hate them covers but my Dad got a kick out watching people try to figure out WTF when they look at it.
I have a front distributor drive conversion im considering running that would really screw with people.
80% that see think it's a Ford now.

My brother had a 455 Buick in a 39 Dodge pickup. Since the Buick has a front distributor, he got so many comments about how people were glad he kept a Mopar motor in his Dodge...

I have a SBC in my '40 Ford with blue oval valve covers, and I've only had one person ever say anything about it being a Chevy motor. The guy was a nice fellow, and we both had a good laugh over it.

If someone ever points out something that is not quite right or finds a little flaw with it, I just smile and tell them I enjoy driving it more than polishing it.

I have a complaint on other side of the coin - or car guy. See nice hot rod at show with proud owner. Ask detail question about injection system. He bull shits, one way then the other, I ask questions to pin him down. Finally confession: “well not sure, I paid a guy to do that”. Wasted my time.

  27. What a brilliant response. It is hard not to match their rudeness, but I agree with your approach 100%.

Just tell them it’s a Y-Block….they had rear distributors…funny that some don’t believe it saying Ford V8’s never had a rear distributor.
