Apparently, nine years ago, yesterday’s date, was a very bad day for Pontiac… here’s to the Cheif!

    Hello,

We were always impressed when we saw a Lincoln Convertible cruising down in Long Beach or Belmont Shore. At night, during the summers it was warm enough to lower the top and now, created a scene out of a Hollywood movie. It did not matter who was driving that open convertible, it was an open convertible on a hot summer night that made us in a state of awe.
    upload_2025-5-2_4-42-54.png 61 Lincoln Convertible
But, as we liked those open convertibles, our minds went to a different version of the convertibles. The new Chevy Nomad wagons were the goal of our collective beach oriented minds and we could see ourselves driving in one or the other to our weekly forays down the coast for a weekend of fun and happiness. But, those were above our income level and we could only watch as some rare ones drove by when we were cruising down the coastline to get to our favorite beach locations.

Our own surf transportation vehicles ran from whatever we could get our hand on for our own cars or borrow from our folks or actually buy an old station wagon for those longer beach stays or caming opportunities at state parks or side streets. Being 50-75 plus miles from home required an alternative stay opportunities. As long as we called our folks and told them we were staying in a campground or at the beach location with food and drinks, they were ok with that choice. They knew we were 50-70 miles away and sometimes, could not just drive home after surfing, only to go back the next morning, again.

So, our thoughts to purchasing a sedan delivery, but an old station wagon or create something outrageous was in our minds, only to be stopped with our empty pockets. Ha. One of those ideas was to turn in an old station wagon modified to create a Nomad Style design with the chosen car at hand.

    Jnaki

Since the Lincoln was the only 4 door center opening sedan/convertible we liked, it was simple to draw what we thought as a cool nomad style station wagon. Art design is inexpensive as a few erasers will bite the dust, but less costly than going off the deep end and chopping off a top of a known sedan or station wagon… yikes!

To stay with the two door concept of the original Nomad style, the style was changed it to a two door. But a sloping Nomad hard top was added. Now, it was a lowered Lincoln Nomad Wagon. The longboards would not fit inside comfortably, so up on the racks they went. But, the wagon was low slung cruiser. The above larger artwork shows the same Lincoln Wagon in a rake stance, since we were hot rod kids at heart and the rake just gives any car a meaningful stance.

    Note:

The object of the Lincoln as a luxury station wagon was dependent on the original 1961 Lincoln 4 Door Sedan to a Nomad Style Station Wagon. So, we could not let the 4 door version for families pass by without a version of the ultimate luxury beach transportation…

For families on beach days with a custom flare and easy access to the back seat with the front opening rear doors… YRMV

It takes a bit of wild imagination, but I have always liked the look of
    "ORCA KILLER WHALES"
And this side shot kind of reminds me of that unique, semi smile on the "ORCA'S" face.
Plus I have always liked the Lincolns from the 60's.

    Hey @rusty1
It appears that there are no hidden aliens this week, but on the first image, I do count one possibly unintended ghost image of a potentially 53 Chevy pick up truck cab, showing through the paper!
    Thanks from Dennis.

I don't usually post stuff I haven't made myself, but from a couple weeks ago's FAS, @Jokem59 offered up a free Earl Scheib sign he painted to the first one to "guess" Earl's middle name, and I was the fastest on the Google machine. Just wanted to to give a big thanks to Joe for the sign, the man obviously has some serious talent. Even the package is a work of art:

And here's my contribution(s) this week. Huge show/cruise in Great Falls, Montana this weekend. Been working late every night getting the Merc ready to go, about to take off for the 3 hour road trip here (no "unforced" trailering of my cars, ever). Took some pics last night after the shakedown on the new front discs. Have a great weekend everyone!

  19. That ghost image was un-intended, but a good eye you have, altho it's a 48-50 Ford pickup...

  20. Been cleaning out my shop recently(actually just moving s##t from one place to a new spot) and came across a bunch of briefcases, artists boxes, tool boxes, and faux license plates painted to appear 3 dimensional.
