I am building a '30 Model A Tudor hotrod. I am installing a '32 radiator shell and grill. I am told that a dropped headlight bar for a '30 Model A will not fit/work with this grill. Can anyone explain why and what would need to be done to make either a '30 or a '32 headlight bar work? Maybe someone can suggest where to get a headlight bar that will work?

    Thanks

Gennie Shifter makes a dropped headlight bar that has sufficient clearance (via a small V-bend in the center) to clear the deuce grille. I have one on my coupe, and it's beautiful.

I did a 30 with a 32 shell and the bar worked fine. Ive got a jig i made up to drop 28/29 and 30/31 bars so i dropped my own and dont remember any problems. Hell i used a 32 radiator also cause they fit just fine on a 30 frame.

    Dave,

Can you tell me a bit more about the jig you made? Any idea why they say the 30 bar won't work? By the way, I'm also using a 32 Walker radiator.:) Thanks for the feedback!

To answer your question, the Model A bar will not work because the 32 shell sticks out further than the A shell. As was mentioned earlier, you have to V the bar to get it to clear. The problem with this is you usually end up with a shortened A bar that may cause fitment problems. I was able to do this with an A bar on a 32 shell but it fit real close to the shell insert.

Ive got a pic on my website of my old 30 with a stocked dropped bar and it cleared my 32 shell. Ill have to look at it closer. I may have veed it a bit while I had it in the jig. If I get a chance here later ill take a pic of the jig i made. I did this 25 years ago and its almost to heavy but it works great. Ive even got a 29 bar that i dropped that i can throw in the jig for a pic. Once you see the jig you will see how easy it is to make. Then you gotta figure out how and where to heat and bend the bar to make it work out right:D When I did my first one i was looking at a pic in a magazine and thought that my old 29 a would look sweet with a dropped bar. a couple hours later it was done and on the car.
