The Black/Yellow plate was issued from 1963-69 with no rhyme or reason as to which numbers went to what areas.
There is no year sticker on the plate (which would be correct for only 1963). There were no popups in 1963 - they started in 1975 and didn't go mainstream until the mid-late 1980s. I suspect someone took the plate off their garage wall and stuck it on the car for the show. It would also indicate to me the photo could be from anywhere not just CA. Here is some CA plate info - https://oldplateguy.com/OldPlateGuyHomePage.html

Maybe someone will recognize the show registration sticker on the windshield to help narrow down where the photo was taken? Or maybe not.

That picture was taken at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky on the main drag.
I don't know the roadster, but it is nice. Congrats

Hi Ritchie, I'm 95% sure I took that photo, and I'm 100% sure it was at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. I'm thinking the owner was from Ohio, but don't quote me on that. Wish I could be more help!

I remember seeing that car at Louisville. I do not recall looking at the windshield tag though. If it is in fact an Ohio hot rod, and it does have the look, Henry Richards may know who owns it. He has Steadfast Mfg in Ohio building some really killer hot rods. I’m not saying he built it or anything, just that he may know the car. He is on here as Steadfast mfg It might be worth a shot to message him and ask. You have a great looking car there.

Nice looking A that someone one should recognize.

I wouldn't put a huge amount of faith in the Cali plate meaning that the car was built in California or spent time in California as there are some who stick a black and yellow plate on cars in other parts of the country at shows to make people think the car is a Cali car. For you the plate is a fun thing as to many in other countries it signifies "American hot rod".

In CA you can also pay a yearly fee to have black and yellow plates on any car, no matter what year. It’s similar to a vanity plate. There is not a black BMW in the state with the standard blue and white plates I reckon.
