It's got a studebaker 289 v8, and auto trans.... just a cool ol shop/work truck....starts and runs really good... all the stuff works...has the 51'' x 96'' bed... so sheets of plywood fit with the tail gate up...but other than that... it is what it is... I know there are guys that love the studebakers for what ever reason... but I think this one is just a piece of history that needs to be left alone...???

so my vote say leave it as is..... what say you??

  9. I say leave it alone. It’s survived this long without any problems or modifications so just get it running, driving and stopping and leave it at that. As for the paint, it’ll buff out. Hehe.

Not uncommon to pit helper springs under half tons. There were aftermarket kits available. Even some home brew ones

    Congrats on the find!

Mine won’t be stock when it’s finished but if it was as nice as yours I’m not sure I would change a thing.
Studebaker 1/2 and 3/4 ton leaf springs are impressive.

I remember in the early 70's they'd give you 75 bucks to bring stockers to be in movies when they were filming in vegas... but they had to be stock looking.

  18. Steve, that's one nice truck. That 96" bed is a keeper I'd say. Some times stake beds just look to "country boyish". The hits just keep on comin as they say. Mitch

I'd probably want to put duals/glasspacks just to make it sound better (to my deaf ears:) I think leaving it pretty much "as is" to show the rest of us what they looked liked when new (and when we were relatively new:)

wonder what trans was in the studebaker???? pretty sure this truck has a champ motor???

  27. My girls '60 Lark (259) is the smoothest, torquey car I've owned and gets amazing MPG for what it is. The only downsides I've seen or heard of is the freeze plugs (disc not cups), cooling passages on some become plugged at the rear cylinders (due to neglect) and oil pump passage gumming up due to neglect. The rest of the stuff is just crappy aftermarket parts.

  28. If reverse is at the bottom of the shifter it most likely has a Borg Warner Flight-o-matic
