I like the Mustang radiator , overflow bottle and shroud.

Are you running the Ford ECIV or aftermarket engine management? I am running the PiMP 4 on mine and it will control the fan. Are you controlling the fan with a thermostat?

Yes, I'm running the A9P ECU and factory wiring harness pirated from the Mustang. For fan control I use a Summit thermostatic sending unit plumbed into the lower intake and I have a toggle switch wired in so I can manually operate the fan at any time.

Well....it's been over a year since my last update so it's time to get current!
The car is now running perfectly and I'm driving it around locally, thoroughly enjoying it! I don't take it too far cuz I still need to install the rear window once I get the headliner in. It's going in next month for a complete interior. I hope by the end of summer to have it painted and then I'll be done!

I've got a couple of pics so here it goes.

Got the heater sorted out. Stock '54 core on the bottom, '90 Ranger core on the top.

    ***embled with hoses ran.......

    4.JPG

Plenum box restored with new defroster hoses......

    6.JPG

    Got the doors hung....

    7.JPG

Before I removed them, I drilled 1/8" holes through the hinges and into the door and bulkhead on both ends so I could easily align them when I reinstalled. Worked out pretty good!

    8.JPG

    Got the dash all painted......

    9.JPG

Lined the roof with Kilmat in anticipation of headliner install.

    10.JPG

While cleaning up the headliner bows, I found they were individually numbered! This is good cuz the paint colors were long gone. I think we all thought that was the only way to identify which one went where. This is a more permanent marking making installation much easier.

For the last year I've been having severe drivability issues and could not figure it out. Months of diagnosing, testing and replacing components! I finally deduced, the only thing left was the 35 year old Mustang wiring harness. Pulled it out (that was fun) and replaced it with a Painless unit. The car now runs and idles perfectly with lots of power. I'm happy!

    12.JPG

Now that it's running good, I was able to take it in to have the exhaust done. 2-1/2" all the way out the back with Magnaflows.

    13.JPG

Now it was time for wheels and tires. Had to take some measurements first. This is my homemade tire clearance checker. Worked great!

    14.JPG

    15.JPG

With the new measurements, I was able to purchase my wheel/tire combo.
Wheels are Allied 67 Chrome Supremes. 15x7 with 22mm negative offset and 3-1/2" backspace.
Tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. 225/60R-15's all around. Out back I had to roll the fender lip. Now I've got 3/8" clearance. No rubbing issues at all! That's all for now. I'll post another update once the interior is done.

Oh yeah.......the electric power steering is to die for!!

Trying to keep my build thread current so this is just an interior update.

Kilmatted the floor before I brought her in for upholstery.

All done! After 5 years, the '54 is officially finished. Found a local shop to lay down color at a really good price! Basecoat/clearcoat Firemist Green metallic. Two tone with a white top. They also painted my splash panel silver. They went way beyond just a paintjob. They did a ton of extra stuff, some of which I didn't even ask for! These guys put a lot of pride in their work! The paint is perfect! And yeah, I gave them a pretty hefty tip. I'm pleased as punch!

That is really sharp! I know how much mine cost 15 years ago and I don't think mine is that nice. Once the paint is cured I would suggest ceramic coating. I used Turtle Wax on mine, about $15 for a bottle and couldn't be happier with the results. Again, super job.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. The paint's a little soft right now. How long before it cures completely? Is this the Turtle Wax you're talking about? I want something that'll protect the front of the hood especially. I know rock chips are coming but would like to keep it to minimal damage!

I think average cure time is 1-3 weeks depending on temp, humidity and paint thickness. I would check with your painter.
Yes, that is what I used, I like it much better than wax and it is easier to apply. I used half a bottle to do my car and bike, two coats each. A little goes a long ways.

I just used this for the first time today as touch up, it revitalized the smoothness of the paint.

John, your attention to detail and dedication to the project has paid off in spades, the car is outstanding and in my humble opinion is one of the nicest '54 sedans out there, congratulations on a job well done.

The car is beautiful, now get out there and enjoy the fruits of your labor. HRP
