Customs Happy 70th birthday to the 55 Chevy

My wife bought one exactly like this as her first car, just after HS graduation in 1961.
Tuxedo black and white with a red interior, 265 auto
I thought, how cool was that. Pretty chick, cruising in a great car.
.
I was stoked. Told her I would sell something and buy her one just like it.
Her response: “No thanks”. I was crushed.
BLASPHEMOUS!

 

Another shot from Suffolk '63-'64 timeframe. The negative is actually a color one and the car is a very dark gold color with bright white lettering.

I made this b&w print about 40 years ago. To do it I raised my photo enlarger as high as it would go and then overlayed two 8"x10" sheets of photo paper (hence the line down the middle).

 

I won't post MORE pics of my 55, but I will share the little Monogram model I built when I was 7 or 8 that made me fall in love with the 55. Found it in my basement a few years ago. I've since built a re-release version that sits in my garage with all my 55 die casts and stuff that was done much better.



Here's my dad's first car, a 55 2 door hardtop. He sold it to his brother and he painted it this Cadillac green and "customized" the grille as seen in this pic.

this one sat in a driveway in my neighborhood for many many years. new owner brought it back to life. I see it at all the shows now.

 

But nicely done, I think I saw it at ?Famoso? years back.

My ‘55 was actually built on October 6, 1954, the first week of production at the Atlanta plant. So it was already 70 last year. I wonder how many are still around from that first week?
