Brought this home recently. I have been busy with other projects and have not shared much for a while, I figured time to wake up and get this one out there for some help and possible identification of what you see in the photos. Looks like a B block with a lot of changes including external oil pump driven off the timing cover, Miller overhead conversion, Auburn knock-off wheels, Model A rear end. It has an early 28 Model A multi disc clutch and an A transmission. Go ahead and tell me what else you see... AND if anyone knows this car--- HELP give it some history!
Let’s see, vehicle, check, build plan, check, engine, check, rear axle, check, wheels, check, tires, check, exhaust, check, brakes, check, mufflers, mufflers? You don’t need no stinking mufflers!, seat, check, seatbelt, check, crash helmet, double check, paint, it’ll buff out. Carry on.
Basic info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_Speedway Did a quick search and I think you need to buy a book. https://www.sprintcarstuff.com/product/1337S/a-history-of-the-oakland-speedway-1931-1941 Here's more info https://forums.autosport.com/topic/63876-500-mile-big-car-races-at-oakland/ From here at the HAMB https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/oakland-speedway-exibit.308719/ Might want to PM @Jive-Bomber https://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=10355 BTW, if this isn't ON Topic, I'm missing something (posted in Off Topic).
I get it. Most of the stuff I post is going into the off topic section. The thread won't get derailed or eliminated if someone (me or anyone else) posts something the mods might consider as off topic. Most posts are pretty safe here, I hope it stays that way.
When you bought it, what were your initial plans? That looks like a great find. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Excellent! Searspoint hosts historic races. Would be a treat to see it on track, even if it was a parade lap. I live ~3miles from Bayfair Mall(Oakland track location), and the local museum had a small exhibit on the track. Rumor is part of the parking lot is banked because of the original track. However that parking lot is so huge and not graded, still not sure exactly which 'banked section' is part of the old track. Sadly the mall has been in a death throw for a couple decades and plans are to properly level the area and build 'affordable'(ie if you know someone) apartments. So any remneants of the track may finally be removed, those plans are a few years out. FYI original Vic Hubbards shop is just a couple miles from the area on Meekland.
Be nice to know where NAPA located. In LA Justice oil additive has lot of early dirt race connections & great car collection. Here in Pa near Gettysburg is Eastern Museum of Motor Racing with fantastic collection & membership of dirt racers. & best know Speedway Motors has fantastic collection & connections to restore/collector guys. I sure there are others
