Technical What are you working on?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Jul 18, 2022.

  1. You've heard of the white glove treatment, well this is the blue towel treatment, no drips of fuel when I pressurized the system.
I may try and start it tomorrow if I'm not to beat up from the swapmeet, hopefully I'll unload less back into the garage.

    20250509_171219.jpg

And I also did the water drop paint treatment on top of the bed rails on the 57, to match the fenders, have to wait till tomorrow to see if that turned out.

  2. I'll go with D) all the above.

Holy sh!t Gimpy, that’s horrible! I recently read a post from you mentioning a wheelchair ramp but I had no idea what you’d been through.

    Godspeed on your recovery.

  11. Kinda crappy video, but you get the idea.

  12. No pictures but just had the gas tank fall out of my convertible, never had that happen before, a short walk to the hardware store and four ratchet straps later and we are back on the road.

Woof ! Halfway through May... found out that I needed my head redone, should be done in another week. At least I'm back at it, using the 2 weeks that the head is being serviced to rebuild a 1969 3sp+od for a friend.

@gimpyshotrods Just now saw your post. Thank goodness you're still alive man. That's a really bad deal. I'm sure it will be long and hard, but I hope you have a full recovery.

  17. Beautiful day at the Empire Dragway swapmeet today, season opener with test and tune, racing fuel and burning rubber is always a pleasure.

@gimpyshotrods - You are truly fortunate to be alive. Thoughts are with you, man. I'm very glad you had the skid lid on your noggin.Yes, it probably saved your life. As horrific as your injuries are, a brain injury on top of it all would be even worse. Hope you heal quickly. Where's the fountain of youth when we need it?

Boost will be limited to 5psi.

The drive components are en route.

  24. Yep. 2.5 hours to get there. 4.5 hours to get back. Killed 2 trailer tires. Limped the last 10 miles on 3 trailer tires.
Cleaned it up some. No where near pristine but I’m good. IMG_6278.jpeg
I want to run the end teeth with the marker lights.
    Undecided on which style
    IMG_6280.jpeg
    use the fender trim IMG_6281.jpeg
    Or not. Bad pic
Making an end cap to finish it off wouldn’t be hard
Undecided on keeping the bottom section of the fenders

  26. Me and a few club members went to an old junkyard up here in the Buffalo NY area about 30 years ago. There was a DeSoto in there like this, of course all the nuts and bolts were rusted solid so I grabbed a tooth to see if I could work them loose. To my surprise the whole entire section came out at once with all the teeth and I fell right on my ass. Lol
    Thanks for the memories

  27. Little work done today, full mockup of the 57 bed to see what it looks like

    20250511_141922.jpg 20250511_141938.jpg

And first start for the Henry J this year, sounds crisper with the new gasket and jets

Another example of CAD. I save the bottom sheet from my pallets of stove pellets. It is a nice thickness and 48" square.
I used one of the original running boards for the location of the "A" and "B" post notches and then widened the rear and extended the front the 6" needed to attach to the front fenders. I rolled a bead on the bottom lip and turned the flanges and mounted them. This is 18 gauge the same as the originals so pretty rigid, but I taped the location of possible beads.
