1965 Plymouth Barracuda... Street / Dragstrip with a 426 hemi motor for added power…

    Hello,

After seeing one of these Plymouth Barracuda Sedans on the street, it always reminded me of a fast style that no one liked for daily driving. It could have been that despite the fast sleek design, what could you do with a 273 c.i. motor that was 8 years behind the Chevy 283 motor??

Why couldn’t the Chrysler Corp put in what was available from other 65 models to make a super street design? A 318 c.i. all the way to a 440 c.i. would have made the Plymouth Barracuda comparable to other manufacturers cars. At least the motors were there. But, the wise designers and president said a measly 273 motor would do nicely…Ha! For Grandma Jones in Pasadena… or her grandson just starting out in the surfing world… Later on, the short boards would easily fit inside with the tailgate/trunk shut and locked without anything sticking out!!!

But, that open space means it is a surf trip for two. No room for friends.

Perhaps, with all of the other options from GM and Ford with their 427 motors pushed the Plymouth Barracuda down the sales slope. But, gee, a Barracuda is nothing to play with while snorkeling along the So Cal coastlines. Especially one that is about 4 feet long. Yikes!

But, a Barracuda Sedan on the street, as rare as they were was easy pickings for the Chevy and Fords. YRMV

With the upcoming El Mirage Dry Lakes Opening Day event, one could take a stock bodied Plymouth Barracuda and go to town in the classes. Now, all sorts of motor combinations from carburetor powered v8 motors making 500 + HP would be fun. But, other larger motors with superchargers could make it faster, obviously, but the sleek design also makes it a good starting point from the stock body we all saw in the showrooms.

I got 20 little creatures, that’s as high as can go as I’m out of fingers and toes.

This is one of the "COOLEST" drawings. I really like the car and the background is perfect!

    SpoiledBrat00.jpg

A fun little Gasser Project that I lettered last week for my little 5-year-old nephew, he'll be running around in this at the Drags in Mendota Ca, this weekend, (Cen Cal) formerly Eagle Field Drags. The body is a Subaru Brat pickup, but he's a Spoiled Brat too! I used some variegated gold leaf to give it that late '60-70's look, and painted the phantom grill up front. (Brought me back to lettering in the 80's Funny Car days!) Hope you guys like....

  20. I'll go along with the guys who stopped counting when they ran out of fingers and toes - 20.

Who did something to upset this this guy? He is ready to smack anyone who gets too close!
