Looking for all the information I can get on converting my 31 model A rear end to a Quick Change. What is the process? What parts of my old rear end do I use? Where can I find new or used center section with all the parts I need?

  2. What engine are you running? Do you run stock rear spring?

Your original Model A rear would use a 101 Halibrand or modern equal.
Hard to find and costly and have no pinion support..

An alternative for any V8 conversion would be a 40 rearend and a 201 Halibrand or equal

Lot of info on here. Search “Halibrand” or “Quick change”. Several dealers are on here.

Doesn’t the Kiwi place make A quickchanges? I think they changed their name or owner lately, but that will at least start you down the trail.

Yeah the 101 works for model A and 32 four banger rears. The spur gears and possibly the cover are the same as a 201 but I’m not sure anyone makes the shafts anymore. I had a magnesium one lined up for my model A really neat piece. They make two different versions but for your application I think either would work.

  5. EDIT: Do your research first. Knowledge is key.

There is a lot of race damaged, welded case, used stuff that may or may not be usable.
If you plan to put some power to it, a new V8-201 style with 40 rear axle may put you $$ ahead.
Is this QC idea for bragging rights or will you actually take advantage of it?

A hundred years ago (maybe 59+) I borrowed a set of 4.44 gears for the V-8 Cyclone in my roadster to go drag racing. Made one run and broke the rear plate. Learned that the A gears were 1/2-inch(?) wide, the V-8s were 3/4-inch?) wide.

Whatever you do, make sure your pieces are in harmony.

(Also learned that Cyclone probably had a teenager hand-drilling the rear plate. So, I had to match it up myself. Maybe that's why the studs showed threads out the sides of the housing.)
