I really think that they assume the car to be worth around 250 grand.... If I remember correctly when Mecum ran the car in January that was the auction estimate. it bid to 75 grand and did not sell... I wonder what the reserve is now?

I can’t even afford to click the link, so I can’t have it for any price unfortunately.

I missed the end of the auction so I didn’t see how it ended. Last I saw it was at 51 grand. It is now listed for sale for 157,500

Thanks Mark. I wonder why they didn’t sell at 75k I think every time they try to sell and don’t they knock the value down.

Yeah me too. From all the videos I saw with Chip working on it the car didn’t look that splotchy. Could it just be bad lighting showing up the imperfections? Did they say who shot the paint? Was it Barris, Ballion…….?!?

Yeah, $100,000 more than it was bid up to. Living in an alternate reality.

I think the gold high lights, scallops and accents are a distraction and remind me of stickers on a 2012 5th wheel travel trailer. The historically significant of this car being built at Barris’s shop is not lost on me. The condition of the car and overall work (besides some of the gold paint) are spot on.

For that kind of money you could build two…
Or one and a girlfriend to ride in it.

  24. We were doing a bunch of shop tours back in late January, as part of a group from New Zealand who had traveled to the GNRS.

During our time at Foose Design, the car arrived in an enclosed trailer from Mecum, and was unloaded. There was some heated discussions between Foose and the transporter dude over some transport damage to one of the doors. We heard that the buyer had paid about US$75,000 for the car.

  25. Unfortunately 1953 was one of least desirable years for Oldsmobiles of the '50's.
