What's the best and fastest way to get rid of them?
The roadster is stored in a cheap HF portable garage. It sits on a wooden platform 3" off the ground and it's covered by a car cover. I pulled it out this morning (the first time in months) and noticed a ton of mouse turds spread out under the car, along with a dead mouse which I assume a cat had gotten to. A quick visual of all my wiring and it looks like nothing has been chewed on........yet!
I need to halt this invasion! What do you guys use?

Using the car more often will probably help too.

Back in the70's I was storing my 32 Ford sedan in my grandmothers garage for the winter. Middle of winter I went to start it and I noticed a mouse odor. First I tried traps and poison and got a few. I determined they were even in the headliner so I took drastic action. I sealed all the window and the big door and filled her lawnmower with gas fired it up and set the choke to run rich. As I was leaving I sealed the walk in door. A few days later I took the car home mouse free. Maybe 10 years later the current owner called me about all the mummified mice he'd found in the headliner and rear seat. My gas job apparently worked?

Little bastards come from everywhere. I’d think some steel, hermetically sealed storage is the only thing to keep them out.
    Or a cat:)

Regarding cats, I read somewhere, a fed cat will attack a rodent and be patient.
A hungry cat would pounce too soon.
I’ve no empirical evidence, except we have some stray cats we don’t feed, they knocked down the rodent population considerably.

just leave the car idling with the shelter closed
    you outside of course....
but I park some of mine in shipping containers...no rodent problems and it is so dry here, no condensation

  13. For our farm equipment we put a band of ajax around the tires. They don’t like to walk through it, and if they lick their paws it is fatal. Bait stations with fresh bait, and water. Snap traps. Steel wool in any space bigger than a dime. Mice are easy to catch. Small bowls of antifreeze, or a mixture of flybait and pepsi. Some of this will also be bad for other animals too- use with discretion.

Try some Bounce dryer sheets, never had mice issues since using them.

I kind of miss having a cat around. We're down to one little dog, but not good at catching 'ol Mickey mouse. Peanut butter is good bait in the snap traps & sticky boards.

Get a 5 gallon bucket, a 20 oz plastic pop bottle with cap and a piece of 1/8 or so welding rod or stiff wire long enough to reach through both sides of the top of the bucket. Old nasty bucket is fine for this. Drill holes on opposites of the bucket and drill holes through the center of the cap and bottom of the bottle and stick the wire though all so the bottle spins on the wire. Go get a jar of peanut butter at dollar tree because you don't want to contaminate what you have in the kitchen and coat the bottle with peanut butter and put about six inches of water in the bottom and set it under the tent with something for a ramp to get up to the top of the bucket. Word, if you forget to empty the dead mice out of the bucket for a few days they stink to no end.
Or a good feral cat is worth it's weight. IMG_9817.JPG

My cat is pretty good most of the year but she slacked off after last New Years Eve party. Seriously nothing beats a cat for keeping the mice away. P1010001.JPG

If you're feeling especially kind to the little bastards, add antifreeze to the water in the peanut butter bucket. It hastens their expiration. I've also used peppermint oil as a repellent.

If the dogs and cats can’t get in there put out a little bowl of antifreeze and a bag of saltiness. Done.

Bucket with a piece of lath for a ramp, half full of water or antifreeze will get the job done, or an inch feed, wheat, corn, oats whatever, works great

if there is any access for them, like elevated platform for them to live and breed in/under , they will get in. chew through plastic. there are bait traps that have a solid bar of food/poison. there are others that are semi round tube shaped plastic that have a place to put peanut butter crackers, etc that attract them in and they can not eat and spring door closes them in. bucket process listed above does work to. but, check regularly to empty. those sound makers being sold did not work for mice or rats.

Peppermint oil is the trick to keep them out . They are near blind and run around using nose and whiskers as a guide . They make a trail by pissing and others follow . This said once inside the bucket with peanut butter and anti freeze is good .Plaster or cement , corn meal mix works great as bait also . Dealing with dead SOBs is a terrible smell for a long time . I live on a small farm and stray cats are moving every where , I haven’t had many issues in a while but I know they are around . My Dad is old timers says “ you need a good pet black snake . “ I ask him what for ? I go the range to shoot targets !

I use same storage but i have poly on the floor to prevent moisture entering over the winter. Never any sign of mice in the wigwam or the vehicle.

@Rickybop speaks the truth. 30 years ago I lived in a dilapidated old granary.
Soon after moving in, I was gifted 2 cats from an old GF. The cats had spent their whole life in an apartment. First few days, they would just look out the door, but too scared to go out. One night I was woke up by noise at the cat food bowl, and both cats were on the bed watching moles eat their food. Moles, look like a mouse, but short tail, and apparently they taste bad as I've never had a cat that would eat one. Some will kill it, but never eat it. Anyway, these two freeloaders were just watching. Next day I bought some .22 bird shot. I discovered bird shot is household approved. No blood or guts stains on the carpet, just a dead critter. good sport in the middle of the night too.

Don’t use poisons, if you have pets or care at all about the animals that may eat the rodents. I used to work in the oilfield and I can speak from experience, the poisons ( solid bars or pellets) do not kill them quickly, takes about 5 days to a week. The bucket works and actually works better once there’s mice trapped inside . Snap traps work as well but only once, mice like to travel along the wall so it’s best to create pinch points with the trap at the end, spring loaded live traps work well this way also, if you’re scared of mice just chuck it in a bucket of water till they drown and empty it. 12 misspent years trying to eradicate mice , never got em all:(
The absolute best way to get rid of mice is to have a weasel move in, problem is they never stick around
