I was curious the difference between a spring pivot and a spring perch for the front suspension? Are they interchangeable or does each have its own use? Thanks

Heres the difference. The first pic is a pivot the second pic is a perch.

What you refer to as a perch, I would call a leaf spring pad.

There the same thing. The only time you really need the perches with the pivot, is when the front crossmember is at a different angle than the caster angle of the axle, that would cause the spring or perch to want to twist so the quick fix is to use the perches with the pivot.

    Hope that makes sense.

  7. Them things on the right won't fit on any front end of any hot rod I've seen.

  8. Not a bad idea! Paul, Tuck, how about an ongoing "Basics" series in the tech section? Each installment could tackle a different topic, such as "Straight axle basics" or "Split wishbones" with example pics.

There is such a thing as a "Dead perch "on a front end. One side is stationary and the other side is on a swivel or a shackle it moves with the spring. Cuts down on frontend shimmy.

You know a HAMB glossery or such might not be such a bad idea..??? some times we use diffrent terms for the same things so this might help with that....? not to mention some use cant remember stuffs names and calling it a Thingy/whatchamahouzit all the time dosent work :)

I noticed that the pivots look a lot more simple and they are a little cheaper as well. I have just never heard of a pivot for the front end before and was wondering if it could be interchan ged for a "normal" styled front spring perch. Thanks for all the info. A HAMB glossary would be great for dumb***es like myself.

  12. The pivots would be for un-conventional frontend setups, like mounting the spring to split wishbones on a suicide front end. Experts-correct me if i'm wrong, or elaborate.

Thats what I plan to do. Im wanting to mount my perch off of my split wishbones. I cant find an old set of perches that I can use. I really just need an old set with some boogered up threads to do what I am after, but I saw these spring pivots available and was curious what their intended use was.

  14. Go ahead and buy the pivots, only seven bucks each! Or stainless for $21.

  15. Also a perch..

  19. If ya got the material, use it. $15, that's a case of beer!
