What a cool look for a 34 Ford 5 window coupe. Slight rake, black paint and nice Moon Discs. This was one of the hot rods that stopped over at our Westside of Long Beach house almost every weekend for the teenage gatherings. For me, it was the introduction to being a cool high school teenager, various hot rods that showed up gave me choices as to my first car and this 34 Ford Coupe was first in line. Why? Well, it looked fast just sitting in our driveway.

My brother’s 1951 Oldsmobile was the first teenage car for him. We put on tons of different hubcaps during those teen gatherings and finally he selected Moon Discs for his cruiser. The 1934 coupe stayed with black rims on whitewall tires for his final sale, but drove to high school in the black rimmed all black tires, prior to selling the coupe.

His friend had a 34 Ford 5 Window Coupe. It was a deep black paint and had a rumbling sound that could be heard for a block away as he rumbled up to our house and driveway. He knew he was one of our mom’s favorite teenagers from our neighborhood. So, he could almost do no wrong… ha! But, his 34 Ford Coupe that won trophies at Lion’s Dragstrip and still drove to school as well as work after school.

When I put on the Moon Discs on his 34 coupe, everyone said that was “the” look for the coupe. So, he was tempted to buy a set of moon discs, but was saving up money for some other motor performance products.

At one time, I thought I was in line for the 51 Oldsmobile sedan my brother drove. He had mentioned he wanted to build a Model A with a Paxton Supercharged SBC motor for his daily driver, so, then the 51 olds would be mine… yes!

But, that got sold and so was the 51 Oldsmobile. Both were sold to a couple of my brother’s friends. Now, the last one I wanted was the 5 window Ford Coupe. By the time I had saved up some money and our friend was in a selling mode, I made an offer and could not match his sale price. He needed money and got a bunch after selling his 34 Ford Coupe with a powerful Oldsmobile motor. And… I thought that would be my first car for high school cruising… YRMV
