When I was a mechanic at a local dairy after I got out of the Army in the mid '70's the head mechanic always shorted up the throttle linkage on every rebuilt engine installed in a milk truck. Milk men were notoriously hard on new engines. Not getting full throttle for a couple of thousand miles gave the new engine a fighting chance.
