Im a student at Fremont high school auto tech and we are building a slingshot rail dragster with a small block 283 and some used and donated parts. we have a tight budget and we need help with parts that are expensive new and hard to find used. what we need is spindles and front drum brakes and wheels or spindle mounts and wheels that will fit a 1932 ford axle, also a drag link arm for a 1932 front end, a tachometer thats period correct, a lock out atomic shifter that fits a th350, 31×13 15inch wheel slicks would be nice used would be fine, parachute with hardware, 5 point harnesses. and thats just some of what we need right now. If you have any of these parts or anything for a slingshot or performance parts for a 283 please contact me. if you own a business and have any parts we need we would gladly add your business as a sponsor. we are currently sponsored by gambino customs and vonhitchen customs. Have you got a drawong or plans of what you are going to build ? Would be nice to see your build ideas.
My drawing suck so i kinda use my picture to make sense of it. So ill have a similar cage and body as this and the frame and front end style as this Sent from my LGLS740 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
looks like fun. Wish our shop teacher would let us do that back in the day. He was a wood worker so guess what we made......shoeshine boxes and gun racks.
Haha yea the previous teacher who just resigned over the summer would not allow the students to actually work on class projects, are new teacher wanted a class project so i came up with this after finding some parts that where laying around. So i made a design and he thought it would be perfect so now we are trying to get the rest of the parts that we need to make it go down the track at the eagle field nostalgia drags in may Sent from my LGLS740 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hope you've read up in this thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/dragster-frames-picture-thread.230419/ also, look at these http://www.roadsters.com/chassis/ All this stuff was found here using the search tool. I say this because it looks like the rear axle has had stuff added to it. It should have simple mounts to solidly connect to the chassis, not suspension... As always, check the rules before building. A group of guys bring out a pair of /6 powered early diggers to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park (ugh!) for vintage races. They look kind of like this one I found online
Im aware of the 4 link mount everyone has been confused by. The the ford 9 inch we are using is on loan from my dad so im making solid mounts welded to the frame and bolting it to the 4 link mount that is on the dif Sent from my LGLS740 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
But unlike that pic you posted im making the cage and seat behind the dif Sent from my LGLS740 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Jeez- I had to wear a tie and sport coat to High School, and you guys get to build a friggin' dragster!! I love it! good luck with the build; there should be plenty of guys on the Left Coast who can help you out.
Haha. The funny part is that according to the curriculum we are not suppose to get this advanced. But because my auto tech teacher said that im way above the class that i can do something more my level. So instead of learning how to change water pumps me and my teacher are showing the class how to build a 283 to 400hp and make a slingshot dragster from steel and junkyard parts. I would not say im an expert on this yet but i have designed and done everything my self or showed someone how to do it so far Sent from my LGLS740 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I wonder how far the project got? My dad taught body shop at Mentor High in Ohio. They had a '23T roadster project they worked on from time to time. The school admin was afraid of liability issues so instead of it being a class project car it was my dad's "personal car". He later sold the largely self-funded project. Wonder where it is today? Anybody?? 13" slicks is way overkill for a 283 SBC rail. 10" would be adequate on today's tracks. Even at Eagle Field.
