I came across a deal a few days back for a 53 dodge that had a Red Ram Hemi. My first thought was that I wanted the engine for a hotrod project but the car is in pretty good shape overall. I sent the ad to my brother and he loved it so we drove up and saved it from a garage in the suburbs of Chicago yesterday. It’s been sitting since 1995 and the motor turned right over by hand. We took my brothers 70s c60 flatbed and after some creative effort we retrieved it and brought it home. His plan is to get it running and driving and lower it and drive it with the body how it is. Maybe fix it some day.
Should be a lot of fun. We had a 1953 Dodge 2dr hardtop with the 241 hemi and rare 4bbl intake in 1964. We turned it into our first dirt track car. We had a great season with it. I have had several engines since.....both 241 and 270 but had to let them all go due to old age and health. Have fun
That old Dodge should be a fun cruiser. Don't expect it to be blazing fast, you will be disappointed. The old Hemi delivered smooth even power. My son bought a 54 Chrysler 2 door sedan. It had a 331 Hemi 4 bbl carb, with 205 HP, was suppose to be the fastest production car in 54. He was expecting it to be 2014 fast and was very disappointed. It turned out to be a great car, and he made some money when he sold it. The next Hemi car he bought was fast, but it was a retired 2010 Hemi State Police Charger.
A guy in the Kansas City area built a '53 Dodge but replaced the red ram with a 392 hemi. It was immaculate.
Shoot I don’t care if it’s fast. There is nothing better then opening up my flathead and letting it sing in my 53 ford with a column shift. Feels cool to me lol. My daily is a Hemi powered jeep commander. That’s 360 hp.
It’s a shame to define that cool car by just the engine. It will make a great custom and the majority of the time with the hood closed no one will care what is under there.
