Been fitting and welding the cowl to the subrails. Got both sides tack welded to secure it. Passenger side got more welding to the subrails extension then fitted the cowl patch panel, uggh! Much more to do here but I'm 20250327_182708.jpg 20250327_182714.jpg 20250328_185508.jpg 20250328_203740.jpg 20250328_204449.jpg 20250328_204832.jpg making progress

Not easy fitting and re-fitting. Cutting and more fitting. Stand back and look, more cutting and fitting 20250329_114122.jpg 20250329_123709.jpg 20250329_183311.jpg

Yep, and when you're finished, if no-one can see the work that was done... it's perfect!

That little thing is gonna be a whole car one of these days real soon. Keep it up and don't catch the carpet on fire.

Continuing sub rails to body work. While I'm mig welding these tight areas I am thinking about how tough it must have been for a teenager in the 50s to braze a channeled car, damn!

Needing to chop up the dash and bit more to get it to fit. Truck dash is straight across on the top and 33 car is curved. I have a plan- let's see if it'll work 20250505_200143.jpg 20250505_200149.jpg 20250505_200157.jpg

Gathering much needed goodies is part of the fun for me. Visited with old pal Pete, he's got model 40 stuff 20250515_155850.jpg 20250515_194256.jpg 20250515_194323(0).jpg

Got an original radiator from a fellow Snapper for mock up. Turns out the radiator mounts on brackets in front of the cross member. I don't have those. I called and went over to another friend's house, he's got a beautiful 34. I measured up where the radiator is supposed to go and made a crude drawing. Anyway - measure, cut, grind, bend, fit, cut, bend, clamp, fit, stand back and look. More fitting to do 20250516_151242.jpg 20250516_151247.jpg 20250516_151301.jpg 20250516_151305.jpg 20250516_171523.jpg 20250516_171603.jpg

Mocked up a 34 shell and then put on the chrome hood. Mike brushed it black. It fit pretty good and I decided to strip the paint off- oh my that was a really good idea. All shiney and smooth. 20250517_143219.jpg 20250517_143235.jpg 20250517_143259.jpg 20250517_195138.jpg 20250517_193801.jpg 20250517_193742.jpg 20250517_193729.jpg

Looking good! Are the new doors for patches? I would think the doors that came with the body would fit best.

I moved the car over to the other bay to make room for the roadster. I have a lot of fixing to do on this side. 20250527_192527.jpg 20250527_192507.jpg 20250527_192457.jpg 20250527_192446.jpg 20250527_192435.jpg

In the last couple pictures you can see the last foot of bead is cut off and right above that they "relieved" the quarter at the deck lid opening. This along with the huge missing part in front of the wheel well really messed up everything.
Here I spent a few minutes lining things up better. Next is measuring and tack welding- lots of measuring and tack welding 20250528_180653.jpg 20250528_181334.jpg 20250528_181343.jpg

Doesn't look like much but this has already made a difference. Very thin and wavy metal from previous work. Small steps here, i cannot afford to make it any worse than it was. 20250529_203310.jpg

I tore into the sub rails on the driver side tonight. Previous owner had overlapped plate (2 pieces) from cowl to B pillars. This was tack welded and it came out relatively easily. Lower cowl patch and below the door panel are barely tacked on. Lots of measuring and fitting before I weld anything. Tonight was cut out stuff, step back and look. Sometimes you don't get a lot done but I am making progress

The B pillar is twisted to the rear, door side hinges bent a little. I asked Frank to come by and take a look. He said I bet the door opened while driving- AHA!
Today I pulled the door off, pulled pillar forward and added a gusset to the front side of the B pillar. 20250703_135523.jpg 20250703_142436.jpg 20250703_144517.jpg 20250703_144537.jpg

Need to heat up and bend lower door side hinge back and then I think that'll get things much closer.
I ran out of MIG wire- that 11lb spool lasted a very long time.
