I am trying to figure out what color to paint my flathead. My current choice is gloss black. Trying to decide if I paint the heads black or silver/aluminum. What I would like to see is pictures of a Flathead with stock heads painted silver. Bonus points if the block is black. An 8BA would be perfect. Show me what'cha got.
This is the best I got. '46 Business Coupe. Aluminum heads and intake, black painted block, silver powdercoated headers.
Doing a roadster now with an 8BA and early Offy heads & intake. Motor is gloss black with everything else cast aluminum.
I always painted my flatheads(built over 30 over a 60 year period for myself and many customers) BLACK because I figured that color helped to hide any problems with oil contamination and any other calamaties that came with flatheads that ran daily on the streets and weren’t used as show “ponies”. FLATHEADS FOREVER!!!
Here's my '30 A Coupe with a black 59AB block and Canadian aluminum heads. They're shaped like stock heads and they are silver but not painted. Might help you decide. Headers are powder coating and tumbled to a semi gloss finish.
Engine installed in chassis for break-in. The color is post war blue for 559A. The plug wire tubes are for 8ba; they seemed to fit better.
I love polished Canadian heads! I will walk by a lot of mills but I always stop and take a picture of proper shiny engines. I'd photograph that one.
I worked for Ford in the 60s when they painted the block and heads black. Most miserable color to trace minor oil leaks on!
I thought we were supposed to just show black engines. I went a bit more artsy, transparent maroon red over a silver base, black intake valley, metal flake intermediate coat with clear over the top. Close up Mr Deville.
