Hello H.A.M.B. After ripping out the old windlace and headliner 6 months ago I'm finally putting things back together. Now I find out the tack strip on the A pillar is not the same size as the B pillar. I've searched the interweb and can not find 1/2" X 5/8" tack strip! Have they stopped making this size tack strip? Any help locating this size tack strip would be appreciated, of course I only need 4 feet and will have to pay for the entire roll...Argh! Thanks, Mike istrum4u@cox.net

I made mine for my 49 Buick out of plywood. I cut the plywood of the correct thickness to the shape of where it had to go into. Used JB weld or urethane to stick the wood to the metal.

  3. On my Plymouth I simply filled the groove up with windshield urethane and let it dry hard. Holds staples well

  4. Can't the old tack strip be reused?

  6. Wanted to include this picture in my previous post; but couldn't find it then. Here is that PVC trim board material used as a windshield pillar tack strip in our '47.

I was also told you can use an old v belt glued into place.

Restoration Specialties, www.restorationspecialties.com, 814-467-9842 has several different sizes of tack strip. I know they have 1/2"x5/16" so you might be able to glue the two 5/16" to make the 5/8" you need.

  11. Not present in this picture; but I used screws to hold the metal end covers for hidem welt after the upholstery was stapled.

While that was a low stress application, the material is pretty dense and the screws bit in and tightened down fine. .

I cut these strips on a table saw, rounded the top edges on a router table, and formed the bends with a heat gun.

I also cut some long 1/2" x 1/2" strips and put them in the tack chip channel all the way around the doors on my '35 3W and used some 1/4" x 1/4" strips around the inner groove of the top opening.

Found it to be a pretty versatile material.

Thanks, that would probably work great as the
B pillar fillers on my 34 tudor.

  13. We used oak on my buddy's '33; but think the PVC would work to catch the screws from the quarter window panel.

A few years back I was in the middle of getting ready an upholstery install on a 55 nomad , all the original tack strips were falling apart if you touched them, I couldn’t find any online, I drove over to the local upholstery shop and they had plastic(?) tack rod strips, they ended up working great
