Hope l havent posted these before. Some T-shirt and dash plaque proposals from awhile back. All are 8 1/2 x 11 typing paper done with Pilot razor point pens.
Some of my old line art from one of my flyers when I was in the T-Shirt business as a side hustle, I could not post these before on the (FAS) now I don't think these will degrade this thread very much. Dont worry, none of those numbers or address mean anything anymore, but still just a heads up, this is just to show the art, its not an advertisement for any of my past work. This will just give a little look at what some of the designs looked like as a color print on the T-Shirt. Thanks from Dennis.
You have to go back to page 2 and read, The Moderators explain why. I personally don’t think it’s all bad, just an adjustment. Dan
One of my older pieces, which is colored pencil, and it also turned into a laminated place-mat. I kept a copy of it on my piano.
I've made quite a few contributions to the Friday art show and always enjoy looking at all the talented contributions. One thing I don't consider photo's as art. There are plenty of other places for photo's to be posted. Am I wrong? What is the consensus.
Hey @Rocket88NZ I get your point, its a valid point. But consider this, and this is just my biased opinion. In my case, I never could draw anything totally freehand, I had to teach my self photography, in order to get the image I wanted to project and draw. In my case, I cant do my art unless I have shot the image with my NIKON first, so all of the stuff that you have seen me post as far as drawn art, was derived from my own photography. None of my stuff is done with computers, its from original pen and ink drawing, done the old school way. A lot of the other images I have posted over the years, are from my extensive NIKON shots, that I have cropped as tight as I can, to give the best image possible here on the (FAS). If the (FAS) is going to be just drawings only and not the inclusion of photography, then the (FAS) will greatly suffer from lack of cool content. My vote is simply this, the realm of great high quality photography, is very much art. I am sure that @jnaki will agree, he is a master of photography, and his skills and knowledge about it, we all get to enjoy weekly! None of us have that natural talent of pure rendering of art such as @Jeff Norwell , or @Jigger ,or @McPhail or @rusty1 , just to name a few of the great talented artist here on the (FAS). That is my 2 cents worth of input! Everyone else's results may vary greatly! Thanks from Dennis.
@Rocket88NZ I disagree, I believe art has many forms. My photos may have prompted your response. I’m not a good photographer nor an artist of any caliber, however my intent is to stir emotion with the images posted. We have stuff posted by young children that is in no way comparable to stuff posted by true artist. I do believe most enjoyed their stuff non the less. From the internet: Art- the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. A good definition of art encompasses both the creation and the appreciation of objects or performances that express creative imagination and skill, often with the intent to evoke emotion or convey meaning. It includes a wide range of disciplines, from painting and music to literature and dance. Oh and by the way view some of the photos posted by Ryan his own and other photographers and I think you’d be hard pressed not to consider it art. My stuff well they’re just pictures for people to enjoy or not. From the desk of your local Wisconsin Brotherhood of Hot Rod Hoodlums steward of Local 283 Dan
I can't draw a straight line with a ruler and instructions...... However, occasionally I've been known to be able to take a half decent photo.
I have had a few of my photos made into canvases and they look pretty good hanging on the wall and people do compliment me on them, most not knowing it's just photos of an opertune time, nothing staged.
Art is in the eye of the Beholder. There are many kinds of Art, some photo, some by kids are really neat, some by people with special needs, freehand, AI which I don't like but it is art. So enjoy them all.
Rocket 88... I truly disagree. I have made my living as an artist for most of my adult life...pinstriping, sign painting, race car lettering and airbrushing t-shirts...all for almost 40 years. Many people look down on my skillset as "not art." I worked very hard, for a long time to acquire the skills it took to be successful at my chosen crafts, and I am still working at being accepted as a "real artist" I am very proud that I was chosen at one point to work alongside iconic airbrush artist Tom Davison in his Phoenix AZ shop years ago. Many here on the HAMB are familiar with Tom's amazing photos. Many of his hot rod photos, and his more recent landscapes, just suck you in and make you really sit and study the subject. A truly beautiful photo requires all the very same elements that it takes to make a successful painting...contrast, balanced values and colors, hard and soft edges, depth, and most of all... a composition that makes you want to stop and truly look at the image in front of you. The technical aspects are different, but photography is truly an art.
I've been absent...just adjusting to life's challenges...it's funny, I was thinking that there should be an Art Show in the off topic forum for the post 65 crowd. Now I didn't expect there to be this revelation we have here but I think it will be fine... You Artists and Hambers are the same gang I hang with and I take comfort in that...and to the newbies and returnees bring it on... Every time one posts a work it's back to the top...I guess the Thread will grow to be quite a huge never ending Thread like many here... Lots of neat stuff done post 65...so here we are... Sooooo...since there's a newly adjusted Art Show on the Block I have an Artwork to share... I did this for a friend and his beautiful wife in our car group...he has a new one in his collection...a 1970 GTO... Credit to All that Inspired This
Hey Tawdler, I would definitely consider pin striping, sign painting, race car lettering and air brushing to be art and would certainly consider anyone making a living from doing that to be as you said a real artist. I also enjoy great photo's and photography as the two examples above, I just have trouble with considering that as art. I think art is drawn painted or sculptured (made). I realise that not everyone can do that and certainly not saying that I can either.
Rocket if you look up Photography as Art, you will in fact find it defined as such and there are many that question it as you do but I realize it as an Art that every one whom handles a Camera sees the clic differently and it will stand out as such. Many here are quite accomplished at it I might add...I enjoy my cellphone captures and just like any form of visual art it can really drop a jaw when you least expect it. Many are unedited to boot. ...as a visual artist I find Hotrod/Customs Art in themselves...nature forms it's own visual Art and the Camera with my visual focus is captures my vision the second I hit the button. It's Art of many layers really. If it brings a warm smile to just one plus myself I feel I've succeeded...more even better...I really scrutinize my own work before I share it...it has to pass my judgment before I share it... This topic is has surfaced here many a time and my thoughts are always the same...it is art. In the scope of time quite modern as are our subjects the Hotrods and Customs...this is of course my opinion based upon thought and research... I share hundreds of images and credit the Photographers as the Artists that captured what we revere...funny many of them consider what they do as a non Art and that doesn't help either. I also consider the builders as visual artists really...
Hey @Rocket88NZ Just consider this for a moment, and this surely isn't an attempt to try to sway your thinking about what art is and what it is not, in regard to the vast realm of photography. There is a great documentary about Stanley Kubrik, who long before he got into making movies, he made his living as a professional photographer. And he was deep into it, by that I mean he studied it deeply and knew the complete nomenclature of what all of the functions were of any camera or lens he worked with or that he owned, or had designed! In the documentary, you see that Kubrik, went through hundreds of rolls of Polaroid black and white film, before a lot of critical shots, so that he could see what the shot actually was going to look like before he called action and rolled the cameras. In his style, indeed, that mode of instant photography, was and is art and it helped him to make the final art, which was his interesting, controversial, ground breaking movies. Even Norman Rockwell, used Photography, to help him get to the final image of what he was after, that is well documented, and is historically proven by his many magazine covers for the Saturday Evening Post. The (FAS) for as long as I have been a contributor, which is just from 2019, which makes me relatively new here, I have seen some great pieces of photography submitted to the (FAS) and more than once, it was debated as to if Photography was really "ART" and more than once, there has been many a favorable positive response, that says "YES, IT'S ART !" Anyway, now that I have safely climbed down from my liberated, vintage, wooden 7UP box, I appreciate your views on Photography as "ART" or potentially your filtered view of Photography in general about what art is. Suffice it to say, the realm of great photography whether its shot with a NIKON, or a smart phone, it definitely has a place on the (FAS) ! Everyone else's results, may vary greatly! Thanks from Dennis.
True but not everyone has an eye for capturing a perfect photo at the perfect second cuz you can't always get that moment back for another shot? Like not everyone has that special eye to draw or paint a perfect picture I love to draw, but I'm not nearly as great as some of you guys here,! There is some amazing talent here that I've seen. Pinstripers and car letterers and air brush guys and girls kick ass too !And thank all of you for sharing it with us!
Deuce, even the best of the best have near misses and fails, you just don't happen to see them. I have Art from ions ago squirreled away in boxes and hard drives that are just part of my journey really. I like to bring them to the surface and give them some love and many times I am quite pleased that I did. Thanks Dan...you, the others and the Hamb are never far from my thoughts...ever...
Covered bridge tours have some interesting things going on. An historic covered bridge, with its replacement to the left side. This is the sign on the above bridge. I find it ironic that pictures are not considered as art work by some, but pictures of art work are OK.
