I totally agree with Cob, when it comes to the really important stuff, that can't be left defenseless in some rural mailbox, most definitely indicate to be picked up at the post office!

Too bad that magneto didn't have an air tag connected to it to track it, but there would have been no guarantee that it would help in this scenario!

Might have to reinstate the Texas Rangers to deal out some
    "Don't mess with Texas" justice!

The thieves hit Ryan's whole residential area.
I'm sure Ryan has had conversations with everyone around him.
Maybe someone's home camera / door bell camera caught something somewhere to go on.
    Man, lets hope so.

Finding these old parts is a treasure hunt unto itself.
    This one literally.....by some aholes.
    Hope you find it.

Several years ago someone stole the brass doors off a family crypt in a cemetery. The thieves tried to sell them to a scrap dealer, but got caught because the scrap dealer asked for a drivers license when he wrote them a check, and the rest is history. Hope you are as fortunate!

Ouch ! That hurts. Who will love that poor, orphaned magneto. For you GUITAR nerds; I lost a vintage Fender Telecaster Deluxe HUMBUCKER to the mail gods. I hope it fell into the right hands.

Now that's nuts.....I used to run the service department at a Polaris/Victory Motorcycle dealership, and our bull pen shared a fence wall with a Les Schwab. Thieves broke in through our fence and stole a couple four wheelers before going through the common wall to the Les Schwab, and stole a bunch of Alcoas for big rigs. They then tried to turn in about 40 brand new shiny aluminum Alcoa rims for scrap. Same thing happened to them at the scrap yard, thankfully. Never did get our four wheelers back, though....fucking meth heads.

The big square tag is what’s missing on yours? Is that correct? IMG_0192.jpeg that should really make it stand out

Ok, we all hate a fuckin thief so I won't go there any further. But, in a let's turn our hats around moment, getting back to the mag in use. Hasn't anyone ever done a base for one that's slotted? Not the actual mag, a base that can slide on studs held just right with nyloc nuts, and a cable attachment. Said cable can be like what I have for a heat control in that it turns to lock into place. So you can shove it in to start on whatever retard setting is best, then pull and lock for advance. Why pull for advance? So if it's left out on shut down you won't try to start it that way and hurt shit.

This doesn't make what happened any better, and I didn't intend for the thought to pick a scab of existing angst already in place. It's just that when you said "...start or run..." it got me to thinking "well why can't we just...". I envision a plate about .125 thick, studs in the cover, slotted holes, mag bolts to the plate on fixed contersunk flathead screws, the cable running along the side of the intake.

Hey, at least you know I read the whole entry:p Hope you find the little fuckers:mad:

I sure hope you find it. It sucks to have that happen.

Most likely? Just a bunch of dumbass kids screwing around. And odds are they tossed the damn thing in a ditch without a second thought.[/QUOTE]

Or crack heads, I'm afraid it ended up in the trash but I do hope you get it back.

    Was it insured? HRP

This has been mentioned numerous times. Unfortunately, obscure items like this can easily be identified with any cell phone and all punk kids and crack heads have them and know how to use them.
Most Hambers are not very tech save so I thought I'd show how easy it is. Simply take a picture with the cell camera and do a search for the item and wallah! AI instantly identifies it and links you to many similar items in the same instant.
The pic at the top of the screen capture below was snapped from the computer screen on Ryan's blog.
This is just part of the findings. It scrolls on quite a bit on the phone but I'm only showing a few screens. Some of the links are items for sale from 1400 to 2400 dollars.
I would continue to look for it for sale at some point. We all need to keep eyes eyes open. Collectively we may be able to find it. I've been looking for one for years and still am. Harmon Collins.jpg

Ryan, It sucks what happened to you and your neighbors. I like everyone will keep my eyes peeled for the mag you lost. I have 4 Harmon and Collins style mags here. 2 of them are Harmon and Collins and the other 2 are the same mag just have a different name on them. If you would like one of them and will use it on your coupe PM me your address and I will send you one of them. Over the years I have done well enough with the free Hamb classifieds and free info on this site that I am more than happy to pay you back by giving you one of my mags I have here collecting dust. You will need to still send it to Tom and have him go through it in order to be able to use it. and it might be missing a few pieces but it should be a good starting point. Thanks Doug

This is the HAMB at its best. Ryan may not take you up on that but it’s a stand up offer.
    Well played Doug!

    Hey @Ryan
I am totally impressed at how some cool HAMB members are so ready and willing to help you get another magneto, that's awesome!
I had to go back to re read the original information that you indicated, that the magneto that was stolen, was from a historically significant hot rod.

Either you will tell us all a bit about that car or you won't, it's your call.
But unless I am wrong in my thinking about all of this, the desire to find or retrieve that stolen magneto, is still something that is a major source of being teeth gritting pissed off!

It's out there in a ditch or the dirt or a million other scenarios that just take up precious mental thought process time!

I know you know what I mean.

I know it's highly improbable that the stolen magneto will surface online or be found by some tenacious neighbor, I just hope at some point, it magically is found and returned to you, to potentially complete the historical aspect of what it could be!

    Thanks from Dennis

I'm never one to give up... and even if I was, guys like @Cowtown Speed Shop and @KiWinUS wouldn't allow it...

Before the mag was stolen, I was hunting for a Offy lead plate. @KiWinUS took notice and hooked me up with the nicest lead plate I've ever seen:

Obviously, the story of the Mailbox Bandit Magneto isn't over quite yet... Updates soon.

When I was a kid, I saw my friend's jumbo cat-eye boulder shatter against a rock. And then watched as my other friend just gave him the very best one he had.
    This place is like that.
    You guys are like that.
